Quote: I'll do what I must do. You just do your part

Description: His strong muscles, height and his rough look might make this player be seen as an aggressive or insensitive person, but, much to the contrary, he is a player who displays rigorous sportsmanship, a friendly personality and an excellent, individual and team game not to mention his great physical condition.

Background: Son of a small immigrant family from Iraq, Bassim worked hard as a teenager to help at his father's fruit shop. He always was a responsible young man worried by problems more typical of adults. The only time he had for himself was just a few afternoons during the week, in which he fervently devoted to play basketball within the local team. There was nothing in this world he could feel more passionate about than basketball and his family felt very proud when he got a sports scholarship at high school that granted him access to college. The dedication toward his favorite sport didn't change the slightest bit. Although his style felt a bit unnatural and rigid for American School, his dedication and excellent results earned him a place. This, however, didn't allow him to finish his studies in law, since he kept helping whenever he could at the family business. Despite being a player with the most consistent statistics of American School, he still is a patient, humble and hard-working man. He is an idol... to many, and now that his family's life is better-off, his biggest concern is not upsetting his followers. He tells them he promises to reach as high as possible in the basketball universe.

Quote: I'll come out of the blue to stop you, and my laughter is all you'll hear.

Description:A defender with great leadership skills and game vision. Although at first he doesn't stand out too much, his spirit and playing style are imprinted on every team he plays for. He's highly intuitive for blocking rival shots, recovering the ball and counterattacking - a team's last wall against shooters and the first option for playing the contra.

Background: He went from a media idol in his natal Italy to a WBC star during a program he was presenting himself. Omar Panola "Diamond" was the special guest and the challenge a single shot one-on-one match. After an intense 20-minute battle and the scoreboard still at zero, the show was coming to its end.
Thousands of people witnessed live how the power and offensive skill of Diamond were overcome again and again by Arlecchino's iron defense and his continuous blocks. As hours passed by, the humiliating video of a professional player being blocked by a simple TV presenter went viral and was the rage on every social network and Internet streaming websites.
Once back in Seattle, Diamond made some public statements in reference to the tricks and cheats used during the program to prevent him from winning and mocked largely about the Italian's playing style,...all of which triggered the final outcome. The very next day, Paolo Moratti said farewell to his audience and joined the American School in Piedmont.
Years of intense training and his ability to adapt to any setting made Arlecchino one of the five starters during his training for the big jump. His teachers saw in him a great professional, fully devoted to his team and with an impressive leadership skill. As a result, they promoted him to join the WBC.
Once inside the great competition, Paolo has specialized in wiping out the stars of the other teams. Many fans recall Shou-Wan's tears or Kerosene's shouts of powerlessness after having suffered the fierce marking of this warrior point guard. However, what keeps WBC fans anxious is his impending confrontation with Diamond. And as Arlecchino always reminds during his press conferences, "the guy who laughs last, laughs longest".

Quote: I'm like the wind, I can beat you but you can't touch me

Description: Her nickname suits her perfectly, smooth as a breeze, as fast as the wind and as powerful as a hurricane. Breeze can cover the court in seconds and score before her opponent has even had time to react. She's like the wind: she knows how to adapt to any situation.

Background: Born on an Indian reserve, Breeze had a tough childhood. Her parents, a Spanish missionary and a Mohawk lady disappeared mysteriously following riots by the native independence movement when she was just eight years old. Her maternal aunty took her and her four siblings to her humble farm to look after them, where they had to work hard to get by. It was there that Curra discovered that she had a gift; she could speak to the horses and cure their illnesses. She became a professional horse-breaker when she was just fifteen years old and from there her life took a radical turn. It was in 1990 that the American School's admin secretary, Abraham Thrones, asked for Curra's help to treat one of his racehorses. The treatment took several weeks, during which time Curra stayed in the student residence of the prestigious school. It was there that she met Edward Awesome "Casanova", with whom they say she had an intense romance until the fateful day that they decided to have a 3 a side match.... Curra had hardly ever played basketball, and didn't care much for the sport, but Awesome's cocky insistence led her to discover innate abilities that were perfectly suited to the sport. In that legendary duel, Curra managed to beat Casanova by 2 baskets. That same day they split up and to this very day a tension can be felt every time they meet on the court. The duel was witnessed by a number of teachers from the school that lost no time in offering Curra a place on their training system.
Breeze, as she has been nicknamed for her swift motion about the court, has become one of the most highly valued players on the WBC. Her movements on the court and her impressive shooting stats have gained her a place on the top 10 female league members, and even a place on the top 10 long-distance shooters on the WBC, despite the fierce competition.

Quote: Here I go!

Description: A player who sweeps first and then goes in, he is known for his vociferous statements to the press, that seem more characteristic of a wrestler than of a basketball player; but the audience loves him and his rivals are afraid of him... What else could you ask of a player?

Background: Looking at the Andrews family photo album, you soon realize that wide shoulders, arms like tree trunks, and hard facial features are not uncommon among them. Two preceding generations of lumberjacks had set a tradition among the Andrews, but young Robert was not sure he wanted to continue his family tradition. He was a manly lad, successful in sports and with women. He was not very strong in academics, and since his family financial situation was not very good, he made every effort to excel at sports.
He started playing football, but after a couple of successful years with a good track record, he realized that his extremely risky style of playing exposed him to dangerous injuries that could end his career at one fell swoop. Undeterred by this, this player, already nicknamed "Bull", changed to a completely different sport. At first it was difficult for him to adapt to basketball, but after a while it was clear that his overwhelming desire to excel knew no obstacles, and that nothing could stop him....
His main technique when playing is the following: he runs over his rival in a way that he cannot answer back. The American School scouts decided that, while his style was not refined, his effectiveness was unquestionable. He may not be very bright, original or patient; but it is clear that Robert Andrews is a real steamroller on and off the court.

Quote: I admit I'm amazing

Description: With the looks of a media celebrity, a perfect smile and a personality that makes his fans melt, Edward Awesome was born to be a star. And he likes to show it on court; for him it is not just about winning, it is also about Showtime hoops.

Background: Surname Awesome has always been present in the world of basketball: film, theater, musicals, dance... They have a genealogical tree of attractive faces, perfect teeth, graceful movements, and their reputation as shameless liars precedes them. Edward Awesome apparently was not going to be any different. Son of the famous actress Camila Awesome, everybody expected him to end up using his natural charisma and charm to earn himself a place in show business. Brought up in the luxurious "Smile-Ville" mansion in Malibu, Edward always had everything he wanted.
He grew up surrounded by luxuries and with all of his whims catered for, and he became accustomed to getting things without ever having to try much. It is hardly surprising that he quit his Dance and Singing lessons, he didn't finish his Dramatic Art studies and he systematically arrived late to all the auditions which his mother managed to get for him. He thought that with his "pretty face" and his "gift of gab" he could achieve anything.
The only thing he maintained... a certain consistency in throughout all these years was in playing basketball. His natural agility and undeniable talent, together with his excellent physical fitness, made him a born champion, even though he was more interested in impressing the cheerleaders than his coach or the University League Committee.
Always surrounded by women and scandals in gossip magazines, he is a media star whose image is associated to all types of products. His lack of discipline and his laxness when it comes to training puts his coaches' patience to the test, but on the court Edward "Casanova" Awesome commits himself 200% to putting on a show for the public and being the star of the match.

Quote: I'm back. Prepare to be destroyed.

Description: Though once a handsome young guy fit for the big screen, Edward now looks gaunt and more like an under-nourished Death Metal star. That said, Dark Casanova has a fire in his eye that the 'old' Casanova never had, and that shows great inner strength, unlimited determination and a need for action verging on insanity.

Background: Nobody saw it coming, but when it happened the sports press as well as the press at large took care of informing the public: The American School superstar, Edward Awesome, had disappeared after a string of disastrous performances and injuries. When last seen he had been just a month away from renewing his contract with his current team and was awaiting the cancellation of his appearance in two blockbuster movies. Since then there'd been all sorts of rumors surrounding his disappearance: some said he'd given up his sporting career to work in the movies or showbiz, but soon other rumors began to emerge speculating about personal problems resulting from his string of bad luck and the decline in his popularity. Journalists and paparazzi searched all over the country for him but didn't find a trace. As his renewal date passed, his fans started to become worried and his agent ran out of excuses. When things started to look serious, close family members issued statements... that there was no need to worry and that they preferred not to reveal Edward's whereabouts (they must have given the authorities a more convincing explanation since they stopped their search and kept a lid on their reasons).
This all took place a year ago. Occasionally more rumors about the whereabouts of the ex-WBC appeared in the press. People claimed to have seen him in roadside bars wearing dark glasses and a raincoat to hide his identity. Shortly after he was rumored to have been in a Tibetan monastery, where a group of alpine climbers had taken a photo in which he was seen entering a local temple (the veracity of the image is still hotly debated). Later he was thought to have been spotted playing an extremely violent form of street basketball on the outskirts of Cape Town. On hearing this news, local authorities tried to get to the bottom of the "Extreme Basketball" (which is how this illegal sport is known) case, but were unable to find trace of Edward Awesome. Over time the rumors began to lose credibility and the case of Casanova's mysterious disappearance went cold... until now.
Because now Edward Awesome, nicknamed "Casanova" in the world of basketball, is back. He hasn't come back to speak to the press, he hasn't signed up with an agent and hasn't let anyone in on his whereabouts or what he's been doing in his dark recent past. His return was announced at the same time as his signing to one of the WBC's strongest teams in recent years. There was no press-conference, no statements and when a paparazzi, desperate for a statement, jumped the security control and grabbed him by the arm insisting that he answer some questions, the only thing he received was a punch on the nose and a sentence: Get it into your head, I've come to play basketball.

Quote: Yes I Can

Description: Here we have a player with the strength of a fighter who is able to perform acrobatic stunts. It seems incredible that both features are mixed together so harmoniously in a basketball player. That, together with the mysterious aura that surrounded his debut, set the scene for him to be considered a mythical figure in the world of the WBC.

Background: When this player arrived into the professional basketball world, nobody knew him (despite the fact that he was playing without a mask). There was no record of his career, and no history of his having been in any college teams. However, his performance quality was as impressive as that of the biggest WBC stars. To keep the mystery growing, the player never made public statements, except for one time when he only said: I just go out there and win the game.
The team that signed him up was made almost entirely of American Basketball School players, and they all kept a vow of silence until the end of the season, winning every match by a record point difference. The day of their final victory, Orson Marshall, who by them was known as "The Champ", came out to play wearing a mask, and it was then when everybody recognized him!
He was a World Wrestling Champion, known as "American Spirit", who, after winning... this international trophy for the fifth consecutive year, disappeared without a trace. When he finished the final basketball game, and his team was already the champion one, the public lost control and jumped into the court to meet their new champion.
Finally, the mysterious player admitted that after having won everything that there is to win in a particular sport, he wanted to show the world what you could achieve with "true American spirit". He volunteered for an American School pilot program of intensive training, where they used the latest and most advanced technology and the best coaches. He was a boarder at the school, where he was practicing tirelessly for 3 years in order to become the best basketball player of all times.
He thought he had achieved his goal; however, upon revealing his identity he won the dislike of many professional players. He also won the dislike of other schools that were worried about the fact that the training system developed by the American School could train such a player.
The schools that worried about this situation, tried to destroy the mythical figure that "The Champ" had become. Despite all the bad press about this player, and the friction that accompanies him in all teams, Orson Marshall is not a man that gives up easily. For some people he is a national hero, and for others he is an arrogant and individualistic player. But one thing is clear: if he plays on your team your opponent is in serious trouble.

Quote: This is my game

Description: Despite his youth, he has the bearing of a basketball legend. For some, he has the prophetic conditions to become the Best-Player-of-All-Times. When you add his natural humbleness and good character you realize that Wilbur is the perfect captain.

Background: In a family with seven older brothers, you have to be very sharp and fast if you do not want to fall behind, he said in one of his public statements. Those seem to be humble words to come out of someone who has been nicknamed "The Miracle" because of the way he plays basketball.
Far from resting on his laurels, this young WBC player continues to practice and train hard to become better every passing day. Since When he was a child, he had a desire to excel. This made the small Wilbur defy his older brothers to see who could jump higher or run faster than him. Even though he was not always the winner, he never fainted, and every defeat prompted him to try again. It was his brother William who introduced his passion for basketball into the family, but the siblings have become more distant after Wilbur's success.
Wilbur tireless spirit made him be always the last one to leave the court. Many a time his mother had to go out and grab him by the ear to drag him in, because the little one was still trying to dunk one last three pointer....
In high school he was the same way: everything came second to basketball. His university time was short because scouts from the American School quickly recruited him. When they talked to him to offer him the opportunity to train in their school, Wilbur replied, It was about time.
Today he is one of the most balanced players in the WBC, with a miraculous scoring point average. Yet, he is always trying to reach higher levels of playing.

Quote: The ultimate rebound and dunk king. Simply put, I am The Reaper

Description: Reaper is a player capable of wiping out anyone who dares to oppose his brilliant moves and his ability to get away from any defense. Once he reaches the hoop, no ball can escape his grasp – He is the ultimate rebound and dunk king. Simply put, he is The Reaper.

Background: It is said that actually, Reaper is the marketing result of advertising professionals, and he was placed in the WBC to promote and advertise their products. The company Devon & Flocks denies this assumption and says it has nothing to do with it. They state that although their CEO, Abraham Cornfield, is the player's uncle, it is unrelated to all that bad gossip.
However, no one can deny that Cris Cornfield is an atypical player. His upward climb in the MVP rankings, surprising nominations and awards in the most diverse events, and his entry into American School (without any prior testing or athletic background) continue to increase the mysterious aura that surrounds his career, thereby triggering the suspicion that it all is a fraud.
Anyway, when Cris goes on the court, a unique phenomenon occurs- he can be a real pain for his opponents, or he can become the worst of a hell... to his own peers. If Reaper feels at ease, his game is unerring, his commitment is absolute and no one can live up to his level. However, if he doesn't have a good day or if he gets annoyed, his peers pay the price, for the team play is very hard and makes it easier to the foe to take advantage of the resulting chaos. Despite of that fact, everybody knows that... He is the ultimate rebound and dunk king. Simply put, he is Reaper.

Background: Akil was always a calm boy, rarely prone to losing his temper. Ever since he was small he was tall for his age and somewhat ungraceful. Other children taunted him calling him Stick Insect or worse, but Akil simply ignored them.
As the son of a widowed mother he spent a lot of his time alone, at home watching basketball matches or in the street playing basketball. Due to his premature growth, he used to play with the older children, and although that was a challenge because of his lesser physical strength, Akil accepted his disadvantage with integrity and tried to be good at distance shots.
He soon developed a mastery in long distance shots which was the envy of all his neighborhood. This was how he met "Old Dog". Thomas Gilmore, known as "Old Dog", was a former basketball hero who had fallen from grace after a serious injury. "Old Dog" was impressed by the skill and youth of Akil and offered to be his coach. The young sportsman accepted the ex-player's training and they soon began to see progress.
In no time at all Akil was... sufficiently prepared to be able to take part in the professional league. His unique shooting style meant the American School didn't have to think twice about adding him to its collection of promising figures, despite his playing style being somewhat less eye-catching than what is normally found in this School.
"Old Dog" continues to accompany him at matches as his personal coach. The presence of "Old Dog" is a clause that Akil always ensures is included in his contract with any team that wants to sign him up.

Quote: Let me show you the dark side of Basketball

Description: His playing style is always surprising, that's why he got that nickname from his opponents, since they felt that they could never walk safely on a player like him. Balanced as he is in all aspects of the game, he is a wild card for your team and a problem for the opponent one.

Background: As a child, Lebron realized that he was different from the rest. He always had crazy ideas, thought of things that nobody else could think of. He could not help doing things the opposite way than those around him, but with better results than them. Because of his eccentricities, he was somewhat ostracized by the rest of the boys; but even that ended up being a good thing for Lebron.
Trying to be accepted by the rest of the kids, he devoted body and soul to what everybody else was doing in his neighborhood: playing basketball. His way to play was odd, but his innovativeness and his wild, and sometimes-absurd style, soon became the rage in the court. In high school his peers thought that he had the weirdest looks around Annapolis, but thanks to him his team broke all set records in winning each and every one of the regional championships. He earned a scholarship to play in a promising college team, but arguments with the coach about his playing style prevented Lebron from standing out during the first few seasons....
Lebron got married and his wife became his agent. After that, he rescinded his contract with the college team and went directly to the WBC. During his first season as a professional he earned the nickname "Swamp" for his playing style, strange and unpredictable. He would trap his opponents in a game where he was the one controlling the court, beating all last season's records for ball interceptions and steals. Rather soon, the "oddities" of this player have become a personal brand, and a source for fashion and merchandising for his fervent fans.

Quote: Centers cry, too...

Description: It is said that his many performances in soap operas as an attractive young man helped his ego grow, yet on the court Tall Tom isn't considered one of the most valued or effective shooting guards in the WBC. His conceited personality and appearance as a haggard mariachi won him both dislikes and praises, although knowing him, he could probably care less.

Background: Tomás García Ojeda Ruiz de la Puerta is his full name and he studied Performing Arts at the Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He started his path as an actor in theater and he subsequently worked in television performing nearly one hundred soap operas, mainly as an attractive young man in all kind of scenarios. However they casted him in more and more villain or evil characters that won him dislikes from the public to the point where he didn't get hired any more due to severe threats that the producers were forced into. At this point, Tomás felt forced to explore new horizons.
His first alternative was to obtain his education in sports by enrolling at the local basketball academy, encouraged by his cousin Eustaquio García and joining the team at Tijuana's University a year later. Two years after that, he made his debut in the Mexican basketball national team and, as a culprit of his gleaming career, he was signed up... by the American School at the end of the year to play in the WBC.
Some of his greatest achievements as a player were reaching the record of appearance in the Play Off finals and being the player with most scores in one game in the Mexican league. Obviously, several WBC teams bid for Tall Tom, but since playing at such a league made it impossible for him to fulfill his wish of playing in the Mexican national team, he repeatedly declined these offers until, thanks to his colleague and friend Jean-Claude Díaz Mendoza "The Duke", Tomás was persuaded to see the boost WBC would give to his career.
Today, Tall Tom is a "hated or loved" player (as the title of one of his most successful soap operas), but he is sure to impress everyone and no one can say he's not worth his weight in gold.

Quote: Harder, Faster, Stronger

Description: He is, literally, the player with most potential in the WBC. He never fails to impress everybody with his skills, strength and imagination. Many people in the American School believe that he could become the best player in the world, but he still has a lot to learn.

Background: This player arrived to the American School with no previous sports training whatsoever, but he amazed all members of the admission jury, and later on his coaches and trainers. Young Lawal Kanem explained that people in his small village had started playing basketball only recently, when their local TV started broadcasting WBC games. They would play with an old rubber ball in a sand field with a basket.
When Lawal realized that he was a potentially good player, he worked hard to make money to travel to the United States to test for the school. Once admitted, his teachers were very excited about the incredible young Lawal. They soon started wondering where his progress limit was, because it looks as if he had been born to play basketball.
He was the youngest player to join a professional team in the WBC, and in his first season he earned and average of 22 points per game. He still has much to learn regarding technique, but the only thing his teachers are worried about is that fame and stardom spoils a player... who could grow to become a legend of the Basket.

Quote: You can't beat me on anything

Description: There is nobody in the WBC with a playing style like his. He is a mysterious character both inside and outside the court. Even his colleagues are suspicious of him, but once he starts playing, the fog that surrounds him dissipates and the victory is his.

Background: Everybody interested in the WBC knows that The United Asia School is surrounded by mystery and legends. They like to keep their training techniques hidden from the public. The case of Yorumi Yori is one of the most extreme ones: this man is a mystery. United Asia has disclosed only the minimum data necessary for him to join the federation. Nothing is known of his prior training, or of his origins. He is a man of great height, hard-featured, with a scar on his right eye that gives him an intimidating look. He never makes statements to the press and he is a mystery even to his own teammates. His playing style is incredible, based on both deceiving the opponent of his intentions and also in playing in bursts of aggressive moves that leave the opponent without resilience.
There have been sections within the WBC who have protested against this secrecy, stating that they might be hiding illegal methods of training. Up until now, the discussion has been settled in favor of United Asia, which does not seem to be doing anything against the rules.... All we know for sure is that any team playing against him has something to worry about (if they pretend to win).

Quote: Try my Buddha's Palm!

Description: Mongar's moves are those of a predator in the jungle. His fitness, that exceeds all standards, and his prowess in the court, only confirm that first impression. He is always nice to the press, but his private life is a mystery.

Background: How Mongar Back got his game technique is one of the mysteries of the WBC. Back's origins are also shrouded in secrecy and the Thai player has done nothing to dispel any rumors about him.
Due to a series of unfortunate injuries, the best players of the Thai basketball team could not to participate in the World Championships. The national coach was meeting with what was left of the Thai national team, puzzling over who could be a substitute for those players, when suddenly a very tall young man, dressed as a peasant, entered into the premises. He then defied every member of the team to try to overcome his defense, and nobody succeeded. Then, he challenged them to try to stop his offense, and again nobody was able to do it. Everyone was stunned by the youngster abilities. After a series of fast formalities to federate him and sign him up for a local team so that he could opt to the national team, he was asked to participate in the World Championship.
Thailand did not win that World Championship, but the point difference was... the lowest in its history, breaking all defensive records in recent years. The huge amount of blocks that Mongar Back made in that competition and in subsequent ones, made him earn the nickname of "Buddha's Palm".
Mongar Back is currently one of the strongest players in the United Asia School. He lives very humbly in a small rural village, and donates almost one hundred percent of his profits to some monastic organizations with mysterious rules, located in the Thai jungle.

Quote: You've got nothing to show me

Description: Although he lacks the typical basketball player build, Cobra transforms into a giant on the court. Able to deploy multiple playing styles, his extremely fast reflexes makes him one of the best-rounded WBC outside players.

Background: The De La Cruz family has always been linked to the Filipino basketball world and, in fact, Rolando belongs to the third generation of players who enroled on the WBC. Differently to his brothers, Rolando's father, Pablo, was more interested in learning about basketball theoretics than actually practicing actively (perhaps due to his small stature, within a family characterized by the exceptional height of its members), and he took a decision that would change his son's life: he left his homeland to analyze the methods and training techniques of all the WBC schools.
This journey, which dragged the little Rolando around the world, deeply impacted his playing style. He spent his childhood in the US, changing of residence quite often and travelling around the headquarters of the American, Saber and Urban Schools. Later he moved to the old Europe, where he completed his university studies, first on the cold Kiev School campus and then in the prestigious schools near the Vonnkan School headquarters.
Absorbing all that knowledge like a sponge, the young Filipino proved having an incredible ability... to acquire and adapt to any playing style. Disciplined like the American School players, fast like those from the Saber, and always surprising like those at Urban; but also capable of putting the chill in the rival's game, just like the students of the Soviet school.
Such a rich blend of styles clashed with the Vonnkan School teachings. Analyzing and searching for the best play was something literally impossible for "Cobra", since his body naturally reacted without a second thought thanks to years of learning and training (hence his nickname, in reference to his ability to respond so explosively like a true snake).
Once he completed his university studies, Cobra returned to the Philippines, where he formally requested to join Asia United to compete in the WBC. He didn't exactly receive a very warm welcome from his family since his cousins, who were already playing in the league, considered him inferior and lacking the height and the skill that had distinguished the De La Cruz family for generations. In a matter of a couple weeks, all the mocking and scorning from both his family members and anyone else came to an end. They were all silenced as soon as they saw Cobra displaying such a spectacular combo of playing styles on the court.
The Asia United has been admired in the WBC for the great competitiveness and will of fight of all its players, but it has never been able to surpass the powerful American and European schools in major competitions. Now, with the arrival of young Cobra, perhaps.

Quote: Wooooow!

Description: He is a resilient and versatile player with excellent physical conditions. He easily demonstrates the characteristics of his school by being a complete and active player. His energy is sometimes too much, even for his own colleagues.

Background: He is a natural for sports, with cat-like reflexes and physical conditions to admire. He started practicing martial arts and doing well in the youth and juvenile categories. Despite coming from a poor family, this success in sports opened the doors of national competitions for him. The restless spirit of this young man led him to stop practicing martial arts and try any sport he could think of. Fencing, football, track and field, etc., were some of the sports he played during his years in high school. In his spare time, he also played basketball. Ironically, this was the only sport that he did not practiced seriously until he went to college.
He was an easy target of United Asia School both for his physical conditions and his enthusiasm, just when the school needed new and versatile players. They knew how to focus Tueng's overflowing energy in one particular style of play, and they have turned this versatile player into one of their more complete basketball stars.

Quote: My Basketball technique is magnificent!

Description: He is one of the tallest players in the WBC, with huge and long arms that turn him into the perfect blocking machine. He is a player that excels in concentrating and focusing on the court, and he has become the nightmare of more than one opponent.

Background: Yang Jie is the result of a project carried out by United Asia in the 90's. The project, known by the acronym TSFSG (Training System for Future Sports Generation) combined traditional coaching techniques (used in some monasteries that trained people in martial arts), with the latest technology on digital monitoring and simulation. This project was canceled at the end of the decade due to international criticism, and also due to protests from more traditional schools that could not keep up with the pace that such a combination could impose on the competition.
However, one of the leaders of the project, Sun Yie, secretly continued this training system with one of the boys. Since he did not have all the economical resources to do so, the result was not the same, but still it was certainly spectacular. Yang Jie is a basketball-playing machine. His way of playing is mechanical and perhaps too "classic", but his efficiency and skills show that he has received one of the most comprehensive trainings in the WBC.... Yang sees basketball as his life, and that shows every day in the court.
He has said that he owes everything to his stepfather and coach: Sun Yie. He has also stated that, upon retirement, he will find a way to make possible for Sun Yie's training method to be accepted by all federations.

Quote: Ha, you bore me

Description: A tall young man, with teeth that shine like diamonds... because he has a full set of diamond teeth! He doesn't just have the riches of a prince, but also the manors and appearance of someone brought up to stand out.

Background: The vast wealth of the Jam Salam family makes this player the envy of many players and basketball fans. They say that his professional career began as a bet with his brother Amir, a famous golfer. Rumor has it that Amir once told him, after a long argument about his brother's lazy behavior, you could never excel in any sport, no matter how hard you try. That was just the spark he needed to set him off. After considering several sports, he decided that his height and constitution were best suited to basketball. His next move was to offer Asia United an astronomical sum of money for them to build a new training center and stadium for his city's local team. The school accepted and he started training. The investment unleashed an obsession with the sport and caused hundreds of youngsters to flock to the courts to try to get into the recently created school. The result of all this was a team of youngsters that had trained together, with Jam Salam as their leader, and who would soon prove that not only were they competitive, but could challenge the biggest teams in the region and come out on top. Currently, "Pearl" is a player... that has proven to his brother that he can become a WBC star if he sets his mind to it, and although detractors suggest that the skills of this excellent player are the result of the ongoing and personalized training system that he receives from the Asia United and not from innate ability, nobody can deny that he's a player who's worth seeing in action.

Quote: A basketball match is a battle in which cunning and patience prevail

Description: It's clear that coming across this player in the street would be reason enough to cross to the other side. His ice-cold stare and savage appearance are enough to turn you pale both on and off the court.

Background: Though the origins of this WBC player are somewhat unclear, photos taken by a number of journalists point to a humble fishing village in the Kahaniwahanaki district. His past is shrouded in mystery, and accusations from the press regarding a turbulent past and involvement with underground organizations from his home country have not been responded to by himself or his agent. The only reaction that the press has received has been an evil stare and an ill-tempered gesture from Shiro Shashaki, after which none of them have dared to even hint at aspects of his former life. It's clear though that this is one of Asia United's most highly valued players; the school has invested huge amounts and its most covert training techniques to turn him into the secret weapon of whichever team he plays for. Everyone knows that this school has used secret training techniques on other players and with incredible results, but rarely has so much effort been made to keep these techniques under wraps as with Shiro Shashaki. Many say that the only man... to have shared training sessions with him was Yorumi Yori, aka Black Shōgun, and that both players hold a cold and intense rivalry to demonstrate to both their trainers and Asia United who the best is.

Quote: You don't train enough

Description: He is a player coveted by coaches all around the world: disciplined, efficient, dedicated, friendly, and adored by the media. There is entirely no one like Kai Xi Fung in the WBC.

Background: Kai's story begins with his grandfather, Shi Yan, a humble, hard-working and traditional man who strove his entire life to create a better life for his offspring. Despite Shi Yan's best efforts, however, the cards seemed to always be stacked against him. When his wife passed away, Shi Yan made a secret promise with himself that would have a major impact on Kai's life. Yan Shi's dreams were fulfilled when his son – Kai's father – became a successful businessman. With the birth of his first grandson, Shi Yan spoke with his son about the promise he had made years before. Hence, Kai Xi Fung entered the Shaolin Temple years later, where he trained in the ancient physical and mental discipline of martial arts. Kai's spirit, however, didn't quite belong in the temple. He was neither disobedient nor lazy, but he was not happy. Kai wanted to explore the world, meet new people, and give vent to his emotions from time to time. He was still too young to understand that the Temple could not give answer to the curiosity and desires within him. Kai's father suffered a heart attack due to stress when Kai was 12. Although Kai's father recovered quickly, the incident brought... about deep concerns regarding the possibility of that he would eventually die without having groomed a suitable heir to inherit the company he had built from the ground up. With this fear in mind, Kai's father took his eldest son out of the monastery to prepare him to become the next company head. With this, Kai Xi Fung started travelling alongside his father. He was fascinated by everything that he saw, but none too excited by the dull world of business. During a business visit to the Asia United headquarters and while his father attended a meeting, Kai strolled out to the yard to spend time with the young players. After his father's meeting ended, several trainers and talent scouts approached with hopes of discussing the young boy's possible future in sports. Kai's performance was so impressive despite not completing his training at the Temple, -Kai Xi Fung's physical shape was Olympic- that the Asia United wanted him to join their training program at any price. His father flatly refused, but after six months of Kai's silent entreaties and insistence from the Asian school, Kai finally received his father's blessing to join Asia United's special training program. Since then, Kai has become one of the brightest shining stars in Asia. Despite being adored by fans and sought after by hundreds of teams worldwide, the young man known as "Shaolin" always keeps both feet on the ground, maintaining disciplined lifestyle both at home and on the court.

Quote: Any one of my defects is better than the sum of your virtues

Description: Despite her sweet and delicate appearance, on the court the agile Shou-Wan shows surprising skills full of trickery. Her excellent shooting ability and changes of pace make Lian a safe bet for any WBC team.

Background: Born in a fishing neighborhood in Zhou Ho, Lian began playing basketball for fun at school, where her teachers could tell that she had huge potential. At the age of 12 she was moved to the Ho Xiao Ming academy with a government scholarship where she continued to develop her basketball skills whilst at the same time establishing a career in traditional Chinese medicine. On finishing her studies, she received an offer to train at the prestigious Asian School, where she received training and discipline for 5 intense years with other promising young talents including Black Shōgun and Tetsubo, and went on to graduate with honors. Dozens of teams sent her all types of offers in attempts to bring the outstanding student into their lineup, however, despite all expectations, Lian preferred to begin working as a doctor and treating the aches and pains of her neighbors in Zhou Ho. She never gave up her passion for basketball though, and kept playing in a modest local team with which she won the state championship and went through to the highest league in the country.... What seemed like a blessing instead led the team close to bankruptcy as the directors couldn't afford to pay the high costs of the competition despite participation from several commercial brands that tried to keep the "Zhou Ho Raiders" afloat. In the end, Lian realized that the only way to save her team was to accept a recent attractive offer and become part of the high level competition at the WBC. That same month her old team announced the astronomical offer that would have Lian playing in one of the most cutting edge teams on the circuit, where the legend of the amazing Shou-Wan (a name that refers both to her exceptional wrist technique and her ability to use tricks and stratagems that are sure to wrong-foot her rivals) would begin.
Today after almost 7 years in the WBC, Lian continues to attend patients at her Zhou Ho clinic, though she doesn't miss a second of her training and commitments with the WBC, where game after game she proves herself as a steadfast, methodical, determined and persistent person with an exceptional wrist, capable of turning a difficult game around without losing the smile on her angelical face.

Quote: My spirit is superior. You have been defeated

Description: This player always bears a serious demeanor. He is always focused on his goal: winning. His physical shape is the result of constant training, a rather Spartan life, and willpower second to none. He has a lot to teach his opponents in the WBC.

Background: Since he was little, Takeda felt that he had to do something big for his country. His family had belonged to an ancient samurai lineage, one that had renounced to their privileges during the Meiji period. Still, all subsequent generations had maintained a strong tradition of service and discipline. Takeda was endowed with a keen intelligence and a will of steel.
Ryu Takeda sought hard to find his vocation, and he found it one year when Japan had been badly humiliated in basketball by a U.S. team. That day Takeda decided that he would train hard to become the best basketball player in the world. Since his first year of high school, he trained with the mysterious coaches from The United Asia School, and his willingness to do well, bordering on obsession, led him to become a player of amazing category.
In high school he met young Katako Asako, and her strength and passion inspired Ryu, who tried to train with her at times. Despite her rejections, Ryu fell secretly in love... with the young up-and-coming basketball talent. He did not know that Katako had tried to join the United Asia School, and that she had been rejected there, so he felt terribly betrayed and outraged when he discovered that she had left Japan to train with the Saber School in the United States.
From that day Ryu trained twice as hard, with the idea of becoming the "best Japanese basketball player of all times". He wanted to show the world the strength of his spirit, and also to punish Katako, the "traitor", with a humiliating defeat.

Quote: Don't disturb The Volcano

Description: Volcano is the nickname of an enormous player who could originally look like a big guy but actually is no more than pure muscle. Incredibly agile for his size, Volcano lives up to his name when playing under the hoop, becoming an almost insurmountable wall that can erupt at any time.

Background: Born to a Maori family in which several members became rugby legends – Kauna Jonah Manukao and "Hurricane" Kunaka, to name a few – little Keri spent the entirety of his childhood and adolescence training for the day he'd join the elite, fed and trained steadily until he reached college competition.
It was exactly at the time he fully reached his physical development that he started to consider maybe Manukao's skills were more fitting for another sport; Keri was actually too aggressive at a sport that allows to charge the enemy with one's entire body, and made for a sure free ticket to the hospital for his opponents.
Upon sending twelve Melbourne Razorbacks to the nearest hospital -with guarded prognosis- in a single game, Keri was barred from further participation in rugby, after which he tried his hand at a variety of intensive sports. Too slow for tennis, too brute for fencing, too big for swimming, and more. Finally, almost by chance, one of his coaches... came to him with a basketball and challenged the young Manukao to block the coach from making a basket .The challenge landed the coach a broken arm and several broken ribs, but he managed to find the sport that fit like a glove for Volcano.
It was obvious that he would join the Asia United and that he would succeed at the WBC as one of the most feared players. This was extremely easy for him to achieve when the legend of his fearsome game and insurmountable defense began to spread. He currently keeps his vacation home in New Zealand, where he is the owner of a modest rugby team.

Quote: I've seen that guy before, and frankly, I'm not impressed

Description: With his broad shoulders and grizzled beard, this man could be a warrior from some ancient fortress, and he understands defense as if he were just that. A WBC great veteran player, he has the strength of a lion and the fiery heart of a warrior beating on his chest.

Background: This is one of the oldest players in the WBC, trained personally by the legendary, and sadly disappeared, Tong-Ye-Yua, one of the founders of United Asia. This player of great height and strength has maintained the highest average of rebounds recovery in the WBC. Many people say that he is old enough to retire, but "White Tiger" does not want to leave the court until he feels that he has found a worthy successor to pas his legacy.
Young players from around the world, and especially players of the United Asia, find in him a figure to follow and respect. They know that Yusuf is the sole heir of the secret technique of Tong-Ye-Yua, a skill known as the "White Tiger's shot". They think that if anyone proves to be a good enough player, Yusuf may pass on his knowledge to them. Yusuf has played in a lot of teams, with players from all around the world coming from different schools. He has great vision and is able to adapt to the characteristics of almost any team.... And because of that, he can help his mates with the advantage of experience and composure, benefits that any coach will be grateful for.

Quote: Wherever I step, no grass will grow again

Description: Endowed with a cold and calculating mind, as fast as an avalanche, this player can either paralyze his opponents with a look of his eyes or run them over with his powerful game. You decide.

Background: When he was nine he lost his father, and he had to return with his mother to Novosibirsk, where her mom's family could help her care for her children. Raised among four brothers and twelve cousins, all much older than he was, he learned to make himself respected taking advantage of his big size and his intimidating way to look at people.
He also took advantage of those characteristics when he started developing his playing style. Twice the Kiev school rejected him, but the dream to become a professional player was strongest than anything else.
He trained every day in a way bordering on excessive, imitating the training systems of his idolized players and having Alexis Kuruchenkov as his teacher. Kuruchenkov was a retired scout who arrived at the school at a time when the school was criticized for producing players too strong and rigid, not very flexible or original.
This power forward, soon known as "Atila" for his relentless style, proved that he could combine agility and originality in the game, adding this... to the other characteristics of the school: strength and power. He was a breath of fresh air for the legendary Russian school, and this made young Mikhail became a basketball star in very few years.

Quote: You small. You move away

Description: This player is spectacular in size, hairy as a black bear, his arms are long and strong as tree trunks, and he has a fierce look that could intimidate even the most determined players. Many a person thinks he is the most feared player in the WBC.

Background: Monstrous... were the first words that came out of the lips of the Kiev school coach when Yuri Urianov completed his trials to enter the cadet category at the Russian school. There, Urianov teamed up with the legendary couple Ivan Kyzyl and Azad Gul. They formed what was known as "the Urianov trio" one of the most terrible and impenetrable defenses throughout the history of the WBC, and maybe even in the entire world basketball history.
The year Cadet Yuri entered the school; the school increased the harshness of the already tough training methods. Apparently, playing at a temperature several degrees below zero was not enough for young Urianov. They started training in the early morning, before sunrise, laden with backpacks full of rocks, and after that, they would swim across the frozen lake before playing yet one more basketball game.
To explain up to what physical extremes Yuri Urianov could get, his coaches told a few anecdotes. Before moving to the professional category..., all the cadets were to attend a pre-match preparation in the Ural Mountains. Yuri refused to travel by bus, and some other players seconded his idea, so they hiked to the camp. One night while they were hiking, a huge black bear surprised the young athletes, and in the cold of the winter the bear tried to storm their backpacks full of supplies. Urianov started yelling not touch my food, not touch food. And upon saying this, he threw his basketball against the bear's head. He threw it so hard that the ball knocked the bear out.
Besides these anecdotes, Yuri "Beluga" Urianov is one of the most imposing defensive players who have ever played in the WBC. Any player who has tried to overcome his defense has experienced the frustration of trying to break down a mountain.

Quote: You shall not go through

Description: The bearing of Ivan Kyzyl is that of a man carved in marble: a living statue of a hero from the Soviet era. There is a family history of basketball pros, and Ivan is not someone who falls behind in any tradition.

Background: Mind, Body and Zone are impenetrable this is the motto of this intimidating player from Kiev School. Ivan's grandfather was the dreadful Mikhail "Gulag" Kyzyl, one of the legendary players who helped create the well-deserved fame and reputation of the school.
His father trained him since age three, inside and outside the academy, so for Ivan to be under the basket rim in a basketball court was as natural as sleeping in a bed. Although he is likely to be much taller than many of the players from other schools, Ivan Kyzyl was the smallest of his teammates at the Kiev School. Because of that, he had to polish his techniques night and day to live up to being a part of "the Urianov Trio".
After the mythical season that the trio had, Ivan Kyzyl earned the nickname "El Muro", because despite the huge size of his peers, it was Ivan who provided them with stability, and it was he who appeared to be the impenetrable wall of the trios' defense.
He was the first one to sign up for a team, but it was a foreign team, and this caused... some controversy among the media, the authorities of the school, and his own family. He is one of the more stable, solid, and dangerous players in the WBC; and he is totally aware of it.

Quote: Your little tricks don't work on me

Description: This man seems to be made of rock. His physical appearance and toughness have turned this player into a defensive point of reference for any team in the WBC. If we were to define him with one word, it would be: unyielding.

Background: Goran spent his childhood in a remote region of the Kazakhstan mountains, which prepared him to deal with, and even improve on, the difficult Kiev School training. According to his friends at the school, Goran was imperturbable.
His parents managed to get him an official WBC ball one year when the "Turkestan Janissaries" had just had an awesome season. The young boy went bouncing along with it everywhere and he trained non-stop using the shabby basket at his humble school, day and night, regardless of whether it was raining, snowing, or as hot as hell.
A person of few words, Goran didn't share his ball with anybody and, for as long as the ball lasted, nobody was ever able to take it away from him. The day the official ball burst after having been used so much, Goran applied to join the Kiev cadets. In one of the rare statements this player had made about his past, he said: The time had come.
There they showed him what he needed in order to be a star player.... The player nicknamed "The Golem" surprised all of his fitness coaches with inhuman stamina and strength. Goran went straight from the junior leagues to being signed up by the Turkestan Janissaries. This team, apart from being a top category team, was the one that Goran had always supported and admired.
The pressure on such a young player would have destroyed the nerves of most, but Goran Abakan seemed to be a cut above the rest. He had such a solid season and his game was so accurate and forceful, that the next year a dozen WBC teams were all competing to sign him up. Up to this day, his physical stamina record is within the high standards of the Kiev School.

Quote: I'll show you some tricks

Description: This player demonstrates a cunningness that disorientates his rivals. He's always ahead of his opponent's next move, bringing down their attacks like a house of cards.

Background: Although he was as keen on sports as on magic tricks since he was a child, Nikos decided to put his efforts on becoming a professional basketball player. He always enjoyed inspiring with awe, which is something that can be accounted for his rivals, who are put on the spot by his unexpected moves.
His talent and imagination made him become a versatile player during his high school years, but due to a slight myopia, he never really built up his offensive game play. Passionately focusing on an outstanding and dynamic defensive style, he delegated the offense task to his peers.
During his first years at the college league, he was sponsored by the Vonkann Schule, whose scouts were able to see his great ability to strategically turn the tide of the game. However, despite having his eyes cured after a simple operation, he still couldn't demonstrate a talent for performing a good offensive game. He started to be disregarded by the couches from the former teams he played for, but while this happened, Nikos Kataraktas redoubled his efforts to train his defensive game play (simply because no one expected him to)... and it was at that moment when the Kiev school offered to follow his method. The training method of the well-known Kiev school boosted the defensive abilities of the young Nikos, who became the great player he is today, coveted by many teams in the WBC as one of the most versatile and functional players available. All this "theft" of stars among schools is a small unfinished business for the Vonkann Schule, and even if "Gimmick" has never talked to the press about this matter, whenever he is inquired his mouth suggests half a grin, as if everything was planned by him from the beginning as another of his "tricks".

Quote: Mmmm...

Description: As tall as a giraffe and as strong as an ox, Timo Nikanen is also a stubborn, unflappable player, just like the eternal glaciers of his native Finland. A man of few words, his persistence on the court will leave you "frozen".

Background: As tall as a giraffe and as strong as an ox are two of the characteristics that jump out about Timo Nikanen since he started playing sport at the tender age of 7. However, his main quality and the one which has earned him the nickname of "Iceberg", is his complete coldness when it comes to playing basketball. Practical and calculating on the court, this player obtained the efficiency record in all of the countries he played under the training of the Kiev School, before becoming a professional and showing his true potential.
He is capable of enduring the terrible rigors of the Kiev School's training, as well as being one of the players with the lowest error rates in complicated shots and keeping his cool on the court in the worst situations, right up until the last second of the match. However, Timo Nikanen "melts" easily when he has to make statements to the press, his fans, or other types of media. He is, therefore, a discrete player, very reserved with his opinions and his private life and he never makes statements. Pathologically shy when faced with the public, he has received the International Basket Live magazine prize... for the best Team player for three consecutive years.

Quote: I can follow your trail for miles

Description: Many believe he could be the perfect small forward. Always alert, with undeniable talent and willing to give his all on every play. His natural instinct and sense of smell for a rebound got him his nickname, which is now a WBC legend.

Background: Born in the mountains of Asturias in the 1980s, after an unfortunate incident involving his parents, he got lost in the Muniellos forest, where he was raised by wolves.
As the story goes, one spring morning, Francisco Urquieza, a woodcutter on his way to cut wood, found a boy dressed in rags and tatters - and surrounded by wolves. He thought the boy was in danger so he scared away the animals. However, he was totally surprised to see the boy flee with the animals and disappear into the undergrowth. That same day he began a search for the boy, which lasted several days, until a group of hunters in the area found him in the wolf lair they usually avoided. After being taken in by a charity (his parents were never found), he was studied by psychologists and doctors, who detected speech problems and obvious behavioral disorders. Shortly afterwards, little Dolfo entered the Kiev School as a form of therapy, based on the recommendation of one of his caretakers, who was a basketball fan and who noticed that this wolf-child had great physical qualities.
Currently, he is known worldwide... as "Lobo" or "Wolf", and is one of the top-ranked players of the Kiev school. As a forward, he develops all his potential. His animal instincts take charge -boosting all his skills and qualities. In the words of his friend Argildas "Bunker" Zauskas: That's Lobo - if you're in his circle, he'll respect you and even give his life for you, but if you're not, you're done....

Quote: I'll cover the basket, you all go ahead

Description: This player might not be delicate or agile, but he certainly frightens enemy shooters. His huge size, expressionless face, tree-trunks-size arms and his bear-like hairy chest make anyone think twice before penetrating to the basket.

Background: Since he was born in a small mountain village, Gorka was bigger than most, even among his own people. By the time he reached adolescence, there was no doubt that the teenager had no lack for strength and endurance. By the time Volcano reached the age of 18, he had claimed regional titles for any and all sports demanding brute strength. As a man not too ambitious and with simple taste, Gorka led a simple life as a young adult. None too ambitious, he devoted himself to the quiet life of a lumberjack. One summer, former global champion and Kiev School alumni talent scout Yuri Menshov (also known as "The Russian Tiger"), who spent his vacations in the small village, happened to witness Gorka in action at an exhibition of strength and skills which Gorka had mastered. The proposal to accompany him to Russia and be trained at the Kiev School was taken with reluctance by the young lumberjack, but everyone in the family and the villagers encouraged him to broaden his horizons. Once there, he proved far that the harsh physical tests of the Kiev School... were not such a big deal and he was delighted to demonstrate the limit of his endurance and that he was perfectly suited to a training system that was perfectly suited for him. Gorka became a steel player for the Kiev School. As his playing career approached the international level, the former lumberjack could only see himself playing basketball. Gorka not being a fan of media pressure, journalists soon learned to stay away from the legendary player and refrain from asking impertinent questions, particularly in regards to his marriage to one of the most reknown female players in the WBC, Natharina Kapinova (also known as "The Tigress", old Yuri Menshov's granddaughter). Currently, Gorka needs to focus on improving his technique as a player, but his physical qualities and fighting spirit far outweigh his lack of finesse.

Quote: That ball doesn't match the color of your eyes

Description: Octopus earned his nickname by blocking any and all enemy trying to score a point during the last three seasons. His fierce defensive ability causes him to be feared by other teams, and his only weakness lies in the excessive care he devotes to his appearance, sometimes making him having trouble with the clubs he plays for.

Background: The Czech Roman Svěrák began playing basketball in college, having already been an outstanding value in the school leagues. When he started going to college, he kept being an outstanding player by keeping a fine balance between his studies of anthropology with training and competition.
His great height and his reflexes were his most important assets, and he demonstrated that by carrying his undefeated team until the end of the game, when they ended with a landslide victory thanks to his 15 blocks. He signed for the Kiev School where he soon garnered the attention from his coaches thanks to his keen ability to guess the direction of his enemies' shots. This fact, added to his height, led him to be the biggest blocker in the history of the Kiev School.
His other passion is fashion; Octopus doesn't miss a fashion show or a debut of the latest fashions under any circumstance, which has brought on various problems with his teams. Married to Russian fashion designer... Marcia Sterapova, Octopus has started his own sportswear line, being highly appreciated and valued brands both in the fashion and sports fields. As a matter of interest, Roman was the organizer of the first fashion show held by players of the WBC, in which important stars such as White Tiger, Fisherman or Casanova showed his designs.

Quote: Actually, it's not complicated...

Description: Racatún is one of the fastest point guards in the WBC. A lover of racing sports such as motorcycling and Formula 1, his philosophy consists strictly of speed. He demonstrates this in each game by stamping his velocity mark on his game and his team members with a pace that is out of the ordinary.

Background: Son of the famous rally driver Ángel Dorol, Damián grew up surrounded by engines, circuits and podiums. He won the national motorcycle competition at the age of 8 and two years later, he won the European competition, thus becoming the youngest professional pilot at just the young age of 11. His mother was so worried about this career that she tried to pull him away from the racetracks by signing him for a camp organized by the Vonkann Schule.
Damián was reluctant at first, but he gradually found that his innate link with speed made him enjoy basketball in a special way. Everyone was surprised by his game play style because his ability to maneuver was amazing thanks to the incredible speed he achieved. He was a prodigy on the court soon catching the attention of many teams in the WBC looking for point guards with those characteristics.
As a playmaker, Racatún is placed among the strategic elite. It is well known the controversy... he faces with Armand Letou, "The Boss", regarding the use of certain tactics, which are said by the French man to be plagiarized. Actually, it is unknown who has copied the other, but what it's true is that seeing each of them leading their teams is a tactical show well-worth to see.
He currently is devoted to basketball as his work, although he can sometimes be seen participating as an amateur in motocross, motor racing or Formula 1 competitions.

Quote: The key is on the court

Description: A prodigious player, a winner, a fighter until exhaustion, Fathi Sahin has all the qualities to succeed in the WBC, but his inability to accept defeat and rebellion, playing against him.

Background: Sahin Fathi's father was a major Turkish merchant seaman. For years, sailed the oceans of the world transporting goods, and dragging his family. Since childhood, Fathi showed incredible qualities for basketball, learned to play facing their older brothers and other sailors of the ships in which his father worked, all much older in age and size.
Due to this peculiarity, Fathi developed a style of play totally offensive, based on defeating opponents bigger, stronger and faster than him by a devastating shot and ball control almost perfect. On the other hand, excessive discipline to which he was subjected by his father, finished forging a rebellious and cheeky character, which eventually affected his playing style.

Quote: Ice, snow and wind can't stop me, and you're even less likely to stop me

Description: It would not be surprising that a traveler lost in the mountains mistook this strange, ugly albino for the legendary creature from which he has taken his nickname. However, despite his strange appearance, he is one of the most highly valued players in the Kiev School.

Background: The nickname "Yeti" might have originally been invented by other children as an insult for their ugly, albino classmate. As Azad Gul was growing up, the other children started to save their nicknames for when he wasn't listening.
Because of his special sensitivity, for a long time Azad couldn't help in the quarry where his parents worked. Instead he spent his time running up and down the mountains taking messages for his family, or practicing in the stores with his brothers. This was how he gained his great stamina, and thanks to his incomparable effort he became as solid as the rocks that they extracted from the quarry. At the end of 1999, an American company took over the quarry and various other local industries. To promote the image of the new management, it organized a basketball championship between the different branches of the industrial complex. This was how Azad fell in love with this sport. Despite a complete lack of training, his team crushed in the competition... and won a trip to Kiev to attend the Kiev School trainings. Once there, he managed to slip through and join the personal trainings with Yuri Urianov. Azad challenged him to a one-on-one and very nearly managed to beat him, whereupon his new friend put in a recommendation for him at the school. Since then, Azad, Urianov and Ivan Kyzyl have taken the Kiev School's aspirations of creating the strongest players with the greatest stamina in the world to completely new heights.
Azad moved straight into professional basketball and later combined his sports degree with his degree in Business Studies. This basketball player, who never ceases to surprise us, diverted from a practically entirely physical education to become one of the main shareholders of the company which took over his family's quarry.

Quote: Victory is all that matters

Description: It is true that his methods or his style might not be the most fair, but his ultimate goal will always be the same – victory. For him, every game is a chance to defeat an enemy by any means necessary.

Background: Zach has always been a sore loser. For him, everything was like a competition where defeat was not an option. As he grew up, Zack became a resourceful young boy, so he never really knew the taste of defeat. He might not be the fairest or the most honest player, but it was obvious he was a winner. He could have become a stockbroker, an excellent salesperson or an attorney, but discipline and study were not for him. He was drawn the thrill of sports, especially basketball. Although he wasn't the first on the list to be accepted into the Saber School, it became clear that the other guys who were tested weren't at his level (even today it is rumored that something illegal occurred during testing and Zack helped out, but no one has ever proven anything). He is a player with a pretty flexible vision of what can be considered sportsmanship, but no coach can despise him. His results hit anyone, because for "Diablo", his team's victory is all that really matters. It's not for the money, fame or his thirst for self-improvement, but simply because victory is a pleasure. Sly and cunning, he is a player with plenty of detractors..., but every great team has made offers for him to be among their ranks.

Quote: Being so good is not my fault; if you think you are better... Prove it!

Description: Tall and fast are the most outstanding physical characteristics of this player, but what really makes him a star is his amazing style and its infallibility as long distance shooter. Do not have any doubts that he will try anything to score.

Background: William Thompson is a man who likes to be recognized for his merits, but who is also a little conceited. When he was in high school he behaved as if he were a basketball star. His incredible skills as a single player, well above his peers, made him very successful and gave him the appreciation of fans and coaches. His skills also predicted that he would have a bright future in college basketball.
But his last two high school years were somewhat clouded by the dramatic basketball achievements of his younger brother, Wilbur Thompson. His brother was able to beat any record previously set by William, which was difficult to accept for him.
Things got worse when the American School decided to make an offer to sign up his younger brother before making such offer to him. Later, the American School decided to offer William what they had offered Willbur the year before; but he refused, joining the Saber School instead.
Despite his genius play that makes him a "Golden player", his personality is clouded by resentment..., something that has been exploited by the press to cause controversy. His relationship with his brother and the American School has become distant. He is criticized for being an individualist player instead of a team player, and some people accuse him of being a ball hog. He responds to his critics by saying: Being so good is not my fault; if you think you are better... Prove it!

Quote: Don't blink, 'cause you're gonna learn a lot today

Description: Helga is one of the most peculiar players of the WBC. Her intimidating guise contrasts with her extreme shyness, while her agility and speed - quite uncommon in someone her size- make her an exceptional Power Forward and a valuable asset for the coach.

Background: Huge is the first word that comes to mind when Helga enters the court. Fast is the second. This player from Vonkann didn't have such a great start in the WBC on account of her large bulky build and introverted personality. Few coaches were capable of bringing out her best, something expected of course, since Helga really had never been interested in sports, and much less basketball.
So how did she end up at this famous school? Well, the story goes back to Oktoberfest 2006. As always, Helga was working at her family's hot dog and beer stand on the day the Saber School champs were celebrating their victory at the fall European tournament. A scout took notice of her strength and agility – she was about 17 at that time and was more than 6.5 feet tall. She circled the tables with a swiftness that didn't exactly agree with her awkwardly big build. At the end of the day, the scout – Gunter Perovich- spoke briefly with Marina, who reluctantly accepted his invitation to take the Saber School entrance exam....
A few months later, Helga was nominated WBC Rookie of the Year, starting a career that continues today, ranking her as one of the best Power Forwards in the league, especially thanks to her ability to fly across the court and catch rebounds on attack without breaking a sweat.
As for her personal life, it's a complete mystery. Protective of her privacy and intimacy, Helga shares a modest apartment in the city center with her sister – a medical student. She never goes to parties or public events, which some of her teammates attend. There is only one exception: Oktoberfest, where Helga goes year after year to help her family. And no doubt her presence makes this festival so much more entertaining for all those who attend.

Quote: Whatcha lookin' at?

Description: Dana is a star both on and off the court. Her state TV music program tops the audience ratings each week, her music reviews and choreographies are both major hits on the internet, but where she really shines is standing with a ball in front of the opponent's basket.

Background: Dana Gordon always dreamed of being a great basketball player, and despite having been born in one of New York's poorest neighborhoods, she achieved her goal and then some. Her older brother, who would later become the famous boxer, Thomas "Snatch" Gordon, took great care of his little sister and used his fists to frighten off anyone that dared to get close to her with the wrong intentions. As Dana grew up, Snatch has to deal with more and more creeps and undesirables, which is partly what has made him the champion that he is today. As for Dana, she grew up and played basketball confident that she could beat the toughest guys in her neighborhood. She knew that as painful as defeat was for those bigheaded players, none of them would lift a finger against her for fear of the consequences.
The sense of security that she got from being so well protected led her to take the Saber School entrance tests without a moments doubt and where she amazed the teachers with her curious style. Incorporating the finer aspects... of a combination between basketball and modern dance she soon became a real virtuoso on the court. It wasn't long before she was playing in the WBC and receiving all sorts of offers for advertising, presenting, TV programs and fashion shows, and although she loved her sport, she couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally get her family out of poverty with the extra income.
Dana "Lipstick" as she has become known for one of her early much talked about advertising campaigns, has her own TV program, Groove with Dana, on which she presents the latest music news and shows off her most spectacular dance moves. She also writes for the music magazine, Music Mayhem, where some of her reviews have caused friction with artists as famous as Omar "Diamond" Panola and basketball player Nathan "Bad Dog" Rico.

Quote: Ratatatatatata!!!

Description: He is feared by opposing teams because his reputation for being an aggressive and impetuous player. But the real reason for their fear is his ability to score one shot after another, in an unstoppable succession. That is the nightmare of any player who has to cover him.

Background: The nickname of this popular WBC player does not refer to a crazy liking of weapons, but to his unstoppable need to shoot baskets with a fairly high success rate. His average during college years was high, but a series of unfortunate events made him play in second-class teams for a long time. This was combined with a turbulent relationship with the media. There were some times when he confronted paparazzi and journalists, and once he ended up in court for throwing expensive recording equipment from the roof of a hotel where his team was staying for a pre-match preparation. He was under a lot of pressure and got suspended for six months.
After this, he has disappeared from public life for twice as much time. Everyone in the WBC awaits his return to the basketball courts, and there is some media gossip saying that he may have retired for a while. They say that he is trying to learn from a mystical guru how to control his aggressiveness and lack of patience.... If this is true, and if he also improves his accuracy in the game, he is likely to become the leading scorer of this WBC season.

Quote: You still don't know what I'm made of

Description: The strength of this average height player is an example for all those who dream of competing in the WBC. With good footwork and great intuition on the court, any coach can tell that "Namloc" is a valuable asset to his team.

Background: Claimond Yuren III o CY, as he prefers to be called, is a player with a very solid career path. His life has been entwined with the world of basketball since his birth, as his father was the legendary Claimond Yuren II, "Ali-hoop", of the American School.
In children's competitions he did not particularly excel, and even thought about giving it up, but they invited him to train in the Saber School. The Saber talent hunter had felt that his school's style was the one that best lent itself to making the most of the qualities of the young CY.
His father disagreed with the choice of Claimond (and is yet to change his mind) but the results are clear. The youth was a born scorer and as he went through high school he made sure to obtain a university sports grant, thanks to a stratospheric scoring average.
Loyal to the Saber School philosophy, he didn't let this decrease during his time at university. It was during this period when he met his teammate and future wife Katako Asako, known in the WBC as "Shinobihaze"....
Today his fans know that if CY gets hold of the ball it is more than likely that he will end up scoring with those "magic fingers" of his.

Quote: I'm as free as the wind, don't try to stop me

Description: A player that refuses to be constrained by rules or barriers, he moves freely around the court enjoying the game and making it his own. Sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses but either way the court is his home and you'll always see him wearing a smile.

Background: Javier Aranda is a free spirit and always has been. Even as a boy his antics drove his parents and teachers crazy. He wasn't exactly mischievous but was given to unpredictable behavior. One minute he'd be playing football, the next abandoning the game to go swimming, or you'd find him under an oak tree reading a book, or flirting with the girls from his village. At least there was one constant that his parents tried to channel and encourage: sports. Despite his dad's dreams for him to become a footballer, the Kinky Beco Scola opened a training center in the nearby town and the fame and appeal of the WBC were a major temptation for the young Javier. This however was merely the beginning, as Javier sharpened his skills, other schools wanted to sign the promising young student. He went on from the small Brazilian school to train in the Urban United School, whose promise of free-style seemed to suit his game. But for this player, spending more than one year training in the same place wasn't something that formed part of his plans.... He finished his training in the American School, who were seriously offended when on graduating; he refused to sign clauses prohibiting him from signing or training with another school. These and other disagreements led him to faraway Russia, to play and train with one of the classic Kiev School teams, and he's now sponsored by the fierce and offensive Saber School. He's a player that has lost millions for refusing to sign contracts that tie him down in any way, and yet has been seen playing for small teams that required little effort from him just so long as they have him in their line-up. A player capable of shaking-up the biggest names and at the same time one of the best and most unpredictable players in the history of the WBC.

Quote: If you want to score, you have to shoot

Description: Exceptionally tall, this player excels on the court with his lightness of movements. His height puts him easily in the center position, but his shooting ability allows him to play offensive positions comfortably too.

Background: This player of a humble background played in the Moroccan league for several years, before deciding to accept signing up to a WBC team. He had received several offers due to his spectacular results, especially in the Saber School, but Saïd Botbol believed that he owed more to his team and coach who had given him the opportunity to break into the professional league. During the time he remained with his team, they held the indisputable leadership, they won all the national and international tournaments in which they played and Saïd became the undeniable star of Moroccan basketball. He was the center who scored the most points in a match, and his speed, reflexes and good spirit turned him into an exceptional player. The nickname "RainGod" emerged when he scored over 100 shots in a game. And he is a center! That left no room for doubt about the enormous influence that the techniques and players of the Saber School had on his form of playing. It seems this player always gets hold of the ball, and when he has it in his hands a shower of points falls against the enemy team.

Quote: Who are you calling small?

Description: The short stature of this basketball "goblin" should not fool anyone. His speed and wit make Cody Chalmers a nightmare for his opponents in the basketball court. Those who underestimate him for his size are in for a nasty surprise.

Background: As a boy, Cody Chalmers had two things very clear in his mind. He was mesmerized by basketball, and he was a small sized person. However, with the clear mind that characterizes Cody, those two statements did not pose a problem; he just had to find a way to turn his size to his advantage. And what he did was turn himself into one of the fastest and most agile players in the world.
During his time in high school competitions, the teasing comments of his opponents were silenced as fast as Cody won his first 20 points. By the time he received a scholarship for college basketball, his reputation already preceded him, and his rivals kept close tabs on Cody during games.
Cody readapted himself to being closely watched, and during two consecutive seasons he was the player with the biggest number of assists in his conference. Even today, the speed of the player known as "Redcap", both in the court and in life, makes him one the best WBC players.

Quote: To the Moon

Description: His unique style and passion for basketball make of this player a sure bet for those in the Saber school. As a first-class shooter and fast player, his weaknesses are mainly on his team play, but he largely makes up for it with charisma towards the media and dedication.

Background: Jason was always a dreamer, a boy whose spirit led him to reach the top. He never had qualms about trying to fulfill his dreams and spent all his energy accomplishing his goals. He tried several sports, extracurricular activities and hobbies and gave his best to each of them, until he came across basketball. From the moment he stepped on a court for the first time, his skills were obvious to everyone. His achievement as a professional was pretty straightforward and he focused his efforts on becoming the "Best Player of All Times". He has always been a big fan of Tariq Russler, (nicknamed "The Machine") a player who has always been his role model, even though his style was a pure example of American School, and "Rocket" lives every second on the Saber School style. Despite having a spirit of constant self-improvement and a willpower that allows him to achieve his goal without wavering, patience is not one of his virtues and this sometimes leads him to want it to be all about himself more than what his coaches and teammates actually would like.

Quote: Didn't even make me sweat

Description: The contrast of this girl's mysterious look and fair skin with her strength and ferocity on the court blows away anyone and everyone. Some players are enchanted by her mystique while others are terrified of confronting any gal with that kind of arctic stare.

Background: For Katako, being so tall as a child was actually a curse, since all the other kids constantly made fun of her. Even her parents would continually remind her that she would never find a husband. All this made her turn into a withdrawn girl who didn't like mixing with others.
When this lonely girl finally reached high school, she tried to get the most out of her athletic skills by helping her team make big wins - although she never felt completely at ease. During that time, an Asian United teacher noticed her and offered to train her in the school's secret techniques.
Young Katako proved to be an excellent apprentice and improved tremendously during those years.
When her teacher presented her to the Asian United selection committee, the deeply-rooted traditions of the school led to the prohibition of females players on the school team. But of course, instead of bringing down Katako, this made her more determined than ever - she worked twice as hard, training every day to the max..., set on showing everyone what she could do.
She broke every record in her category in Japan, and the following year she received an invitation to travel to the USA and join the Saber School. Of course, she accepted right away. Her speed and extremely offensive game style made her the perfect player for Saber. What's more, she wasn't the only tall ungainly player on the court, so finally she started to loosen up and actually make friends.
Today, she's found her place and even married a player from Saber, a guy known as Namloc. However, her need for vengeance has never abated and every time she plays, she employs all her power to prove that no rival can belittle her without paying the price.

Quote: Block this!

Description: Watching him in action is like seeing a potpourri of sports styles, moves and plays; all of them happening at breakneck speed. A real multitasking man, Moses is capable of switching from offense to defense in a second, just like a raccoon with a caffeine overdose.

Background: According to the sports commentator Mario Campanelli: if you want to see an explosion on the court, all you need to do is watch this guy play.
Moses was adopted in Algeria when he was 5 years old, and since then he has traveled across the world as his father was a sports photographer of prestigious international renown. Combining the proximity of his family with sport, his speed and his natural skills, young Moses has taken part in children's categories of soccer, swimming, sprinting, jumping and fencing in several countries around the world.
When he was 12 years old his father was doing an extensive article on the techniques and traditions of the famous Saber School of the WBC. At the school they asked the boy if he had ever played basketball. During the time they spent there he stunned the talent hunters, with both his physical fitness and his familiarity with sports, and they suggested that he stayed there to train starting the following year.
From then on his career... did justice to his nickname and he went up to the speed of sound and faster, focusing all of his sporting versatility on basketball. Moses proved to be a quick and dangerous player, capable of performing so many shots in a match's quarter that his rivals were left dazed before managing to reorganize their defense.
During his first year as a professional he nearly broke the WBC score record, but a wrist injury prevented it. He has already stated that he does not intend to let this year pass without achieving it, and everyone knows that Moses Raptor talks fast, acts fast, and doesn't usually fail.

Quote: Faster

Description: Speedy Parker is not only fast, tall, and strong. He also has a constant smile on his face before anyone even makes a joke. It is true that he has rarely been serious for more than two seconds, but nobody doubts that a player like him is a serious guarantee that the opposing team will not stop running if they hope to win the game.

Background: Speed, run, run: young Jeremy-Jason Parker knew that that was what he liked to do. There was no feeling in the world that gave him such a high. He was always running around, talking fast and doing every task at maximum speed. Whether skateboarding, biking or running to the max, his restless spirit loved the sensation of seeing the world go by quickly. There was a family history of "speed": his uncle was Jamal Parker, a famous runner. But since his family was deeply religious and conservative, his mother's dream was that his son would become a priest.
Soon she lost such hopes when seeing Jeremias potential skills for sports, and when he was offered a generous scholarship to train with Saber School. Jeremy found basketball an active and nice game where he could put his abilities to use. His rushing-through-life-style fit perfectly the run and shoot style of the Saber School.
His great height helps him... surprise his rivals in many game positions, and his speed, hardly matched by anyone in the history of the academy, won him many admirers and also many jealous detractors. But Speedy does not have time to concentrate on his enemies: when he is receiving a trophy he is already thinking on the next one. Some people who have played with him, or against him, many times wonder: Is he ever going to stop?.

Quote: Get away or I'll bite you

Description: He is man who has fought hard for what he wanted and does not let any player, coach or circumstances stop him from playing basketball in the style and the terms he likes. "Bad Dog" is a terrible enemy and an unpredictable partner; but he is certainly a versatile, skilled and determined player.

Background: Nathan's father was always a hard worker; he devoted his life to provide for his nine children. Nathan was never good at academics, but as a kid he always excelled in sports. He entered the high school track team, and also the wrestling one. At home, he received a lot of pressure to do well in sports, since his academic studies were far from strong.
Although Nathan made a real effort to be the most responsible among his brothers, he also had a passion: street basketball. He not only met who would be his future wife there, but also it was there where he could be free and play with his own style without the pressure to succeed; with no strings attached and no supervision.
More than ten and more than a hundred times his parents scold him for arriving late home or to his official trainings. His friends were in street basketball, but they were fans of many players of the newly created Urban United School. His friends encouraged him for years... to take the school trails, but only when pressure caused a bitter breakup with his parents was he able to gather the confidence to approach them.
He impressed them with his technique and his style, and very soon his coaches turn him into a WBC star. Now that he has found his life path, Nathan has reconciled with his family and he is a star in both the WBC and in the professional world of street basketball, something that he never gave up.
He is also a known b-boy and he has announced the upcoming opening of his own record label along with his colleague Diamond and his wife.

Quote: Life is like a video game; the only difference is you don't have three lives

Description: Despite his great fame as a WBC player, Big Bob is shy and keeps to himself. On the court he becomes an immovable obelisk, able to paralyze his opponents only with his presence and intimidate his rival with his fiery appearance, intensified by his green Mohawk haircut in tribute to his favorite video game character.

Background: Bob Campbell was born in a suburb of Los Angeles to a middle class family who always tried to give him everything he wanted, but as he grew up and discovered the world of video games, Bob began spending most of his time on this hobby.
The first game that he was given was a basketball videogame, and he felt so thrilled about it that Bob decided to learn to play the real game, enrolling in roaming summer schools the Urban School was teaching. It was then when he unveiled his talent and everyone noticed his outstanding abilities as a center, but he still needed to overcome his shyness to reveal his true worth.
The school turned to its team of psychologists that tried to get Bob to overcome his shyness and begin showing his aggressive side. After months of failed attempts, they began to explore his motivations..., and thought that the trigger for his entry into sportsmight also be the solution in this case. It was indeed. They suggested that Bob styled his hair like one of his favorite videogame characters, and... voilà! His shyness disappeared.
Big Bob felt at ease with how his new green mohawk looked- his attitude became the one of a genuine basketball star, and thus, his play improved in such a way that every new season all teams battle to have him within their ranks.
Videogames remain his favorite hobby, and when he's not training or playing a league match, he locks himself in his Beverly Hills mansion to play in his private arcade room or close to his dolby-surround screen to enjoy the latest sports games.

Quote: You weren't expecting that, were you?

Description: His playing style is modest, but efficient. He is a player with stamina that has proved to be a great starter player, as well as a loyal and dedicated teammate. He knows how to make the most of the opportunities that arise on the court and uses them to his advantage.

Background: As a boy he never thought about playing basketball. In fact, he was a shy boy who wanted to be an artist. He tried taking painting lessons, but the humble origin of his family made him give it up. He was a good student and he focused on his studies, and finding out about the chance of getting a grant through sport gave him the motivation to join the athletic team. His talents were not right for this sport, and he ended up devoting himself to basketball.
This is where he discovered his true talent, not only as an excellent defender, but his modest attitude also easily deceived his opponents, who were suddenly left surprised by great explosive playing that left them frozen where they stood. After having won four consecutive championships, one each academic year, the Urban United School offered him the opportunity to join their university program with a generous grant.
This was how Mory Nkidum gradually went about finding his spot in the ranking... of the most stable and efficient players of the WBC. He generally played modestly and without drawing attention to himself, setting a consistent rhythm and supporting his teammates. In effect, what he does is coldly analyze his rivals, to later perform a surprising attack or completely unexpected move.

Quote: If it's not good, that means I didn't do it

Description: A strong point guard who knows how to make the most of his skills. With untiring, accurate and daring tactics, Bunker is a sure bet for imaginative teams with an innovative game vision.

Background: Born in Kaunas county, in Lithuania, Argildas Zauskas began training at the Urban School at the early age of 8. He was fortunate to take part in a special promotional plan that this prestigious school offered for several years throughout Central Europe, from where valuable players arose, such as Waldo Brizniek "Mole" or "Bunker" himself, one of the hardest and most resistant point guards of the competition today.
At first, the young Algirdas's gameplay was oriented towards center and power forward, but during the 2007 Interuniversity Tournament, due to the numerous injuries suffered by his teammates, his coach Sergei "Chef" Varskwa, decided to play him as the game planner. Since then, this has been his natural position on the court, a position from which he outlines the strategy, divides plays and sets the game rhythm thanks to his exceptional passing ability, which enables him to evolve from the outside, where he's like a fish out of water. On the court, he's his rivals' nightmare since they’re used much weaker point guards - he's a hard nut to crack... and almost no one can stop him.
The nickname "Bunker" does him more than justice since his stamina and ability to handle the most frenetic and tense games are almost legendary. In the words of one of his coaches: Zauskas is our key player, he's like a bunker the enemy has to overcome to reach victory.

Quote: You need a lot more than that to beat the maestro of Flow

Description: Although a little short for his playing position, Omar "Diamond" Panola is a man who will not let anyone be above him, not on the court, not on the street, nor with the mike in his hands. MC, professional player and UUS shareholder, Panola is someone to always bear in mind.

Background: At the moment, Omar "Diamond" Panola is one of the most famous players with the most media exposure in the WBC, and he is one of the main investors in Urban United School urban projects, but this was not always the case. In his youth he was quite a conflictive boy. He played basketball at high school, bringing significant victories to the team at his humble public school, but in the end he was expelled from the team and the school because of his rebellious and problematic behavior.
From then on, he devoted himself to his other great passion: rap. While he was beginning to make a place for himself amongst the rappers, he continued playing basketball on whatever court he could find in his city where there was someone willing to play with him. He always said that every day he used to play with people as good as or even better than many professionals, but the thing is here on the street they don't get the same opportunities.....
Then his chance arrived. When his album If you want to see more: Diggit became a great success, "Diamond" started a tour around the country, which put him in contact with Urban United School. Ever since he dedicated himself to its training system he has been one of the school's emblematic symbols, helping financially to expand the school throughout the country. He has achieved important victories in the name of the School that paved his path into professional basketball.

Quote: If you don't want to get burnt, step aside

Description: His playing style is quite aggressive, and some people have described it as blazing. If you don't want problems, you should keep out the way of Jamal Jones. Of a good height and with an excellent physical fitness, he makes playing look as easy as a walk in the park.

Background: In the beginning, his parents thought Jamal had an anger management problem. He used to shout at other children, throw things and pretty much wreak havoc wherever he went. When they took him to a specialist they were told that it was a hyperactivity problem, but all attempts to treat him failed miserably. When they tried to make him focus his attention, all they managed to achieve was increase his impatience and cause fits of anger.
His parents, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, decided to send him to a summer camp where the main activity would be basketball. When he returned he was so excited about the new sport that he didn't even greet his parents when he got off the bus; he went running off to the closest park to play basketball. It was as if he had found an outlet for all of the destructive energy he accumulated. Playing on the court was like an injection of explosive energy: he played, played, played, and played some more, until he wore out all of his opponents and teammates. If the pace of the game... didn't keep up with his expectations, he turned violent. It was not long before nobody wanted to play with him, so he quit going to parks and instead joined up to a team where he could play more intensively.
There, the restrictions laid down by the game's rules penalized Jamal for his aggressive attitude, and his yearning to play made him change his ways so that he could be on the court for the longest amount of time possible. He hardly ever showed any interest in anything that wasn't basketball. His impulsive, intense, and completely aggressive playing style enabled him to make it into the professional league, passing only very briefly through the university league.
In the WBC Jamal is finally in his element: the high level of competition keeps a reign on his aggressiveness and hyperactivity, allowing him to lead a normal life.

Quote: Stop talking and let's play basketball

Description: He has a calm and quiet demeanor, and may not look like much, but you should not be deceived by his aspect because he is one of the best scorers in his category. He is a patient and precise player, but one who can beat you at the scoreboard and tag your locker room with graffiti in the same afternoon.

Background: Players of the Urban United School have a reputation for rowdy, and out of control media stars, but John Jason is, and has always been, an exception to that rule. As a young man he was the calmest of his peer group. He practiced basketball in the street with moderate enthusiasm as a kid.
Gradually he started to be a fairly prominent player, but despite the fact that his friends and acquaintances encouraged him to try to play professionally, his humbleness and shyness stopped him. He delayed trying, and some people thought that he had probably wasted what could have been a fruitful career.
But John was just saving the best for last. His first season under the Urban United wing was a total success: he became the highest scorer of the season. The coaching style of this school, no ties-no pressure, fits perfectly with the playing style of this young player, and allows him enough free time for his second favorite activity that gives him his nickname. It is common to see his graffiti... on the walls of stadiums where he has played.

Quote: Didn't you have enough? Do you want some more?

Description: Kevin loves tricks; he is an expert deceiving his enemies with his agility and speed. Although he likes to show off his talents, he never forgets his team, and when he tries hard nobody can beat him on the game.

Background: Kevin O'Connor lost his parents at age seven, and started being transferred from one orphanage to the next due to his tendency to be a bully and to cause problems for foster parents and guardians.
When he started high school, he did not seem to be straightening out and he began to be known in his neighborhood as a "professional" troublemaker. Only when, by chance, he started playing in the school basketball team, did his coaches and teachers change a little the way they thought of him.
From the very first moment, his innate playing qualities came to light. Despite his dislike for discipline, his progress was geometric. Finding something that he was good at (besides getting into fights in youth clubs,) gave Kevin a feeling of pride and satisfaction that he had not known before.
This troubled boy was soon the school's hero for leading his team to be the winner three years in a row. At some point his progress stalled, because he found new distractions inside his basketball environment: victory's celebrations, redhead or blonde cheerleaders with long eyelashes, etc....
He was a bad student, so he thought that he would not be able to play college basketball, and go after that to play professional league. But, suddenly, Urban United School sent him an invitation to train in the United States and play in one of its small leagues.
Finally luck was smiling at Kevin, and from then on he only had to make an effort to show how well he could play. He received several MVPs in his first five years as a professional player.

Quote: I can't stand crybabies

Description: He is in top form combining strength and agility. His impulsiveness may cause his game to be too aggressive from a technical (and even sports) standpoint, but he knows how to respect a foe that lives up to his level. His disdain for weakness is his greatest virtue and his main defect.

Background: Although his sport skills started by practicing capoeira from an early age, he didn't have what it takes to become a champion... And Mauro most certainly wanted to be a champion. He belonged to a big family that was constantly experiencing financial problems. His father always did his best to make his children to become successful soccer players, but none of them became rich enough to support the family. Mauro had always been a rebel and his father's selfish attitude always made him chose a different path from his elders. He started playing basketball on the streets and his passion progressively led him to quit capoeira. He started training within a new, although small school set up in Brazil (the Kinky Beco Scola), but his aggressive play and absolute lack of discipline lead him to be kicked out time after time again. Luckily for Mauro, a scout from Urban School was visiting Kinky Beco Scola's facilities and he decided to give a chance to that unruly and promising (although disobedient) boy. His father didn't much agree because soccer... was the only option for him, but Mauro went to the United States nonetheless. Once there, his personality and aggressive traits were focused toward a free and powerful game play that only Urban School was able to fully exploit. Mauro finally succeeded in becoming a champion and he actually did it his own way. His family is ever grateful to him and his father has now learned an important lesson. Perhaps those who are the least happy about the "Matarife's" entrance to the WBC are the players from the opposing team.

Quote: Boo!

Description: An accident left a serious injury on his face. However, when he became a WBC star, "Scary" began using that trait as part of his character. He knows he can be intimidating to his enemies and takes advantage of it. He was also featured in two movies and the media attention has earned him a well-deserved reputation, not only as a player but as a media character on the court and off the court as well.

Background: After the accident at the chemical plant, Andrés was never the same. However, the company compensated him with an indemnity. His face was marred forever more, he was young and he needed something to keep him going. That is why he fully devoted himself to his main youth hobby- his college basketball years. Although he had never stopped playing sports, the pressure from his studies forced him to quit college competitions. He was a promising player, but after the accident and resting an appropriate amount, he was determined to practice his favorite sport with the passion of someone who has found a new reason to keep going. He soon proved that his innate abilities and intuition had not diminished with the passing of the years, they had only been dormant. All the people around him were impressed by his ability and within a few months he was already playing in a semi-professional team. After a glorious first season..., his name rose to the first level and some schools sent scouts to meet the player that was already calling himself "Scary". His training had been poorly prepared, and for this reason, Andrés Martínez himself went to Urban school and asked that he joined. After several tests, it was confirmed that his fighting spirit and self-taught style fit well with the school philosophy and even though he was a bit too old to start his professional training, "Scary" more than made up for it in a few years, gathering a continuous harvest of consecutive victories and wins thanks to his amazing moves. Although his appearance can be intimidating, his teammates soon learned that it is an attitude he develops to cause unease in his opponents, but they also realized he is a good team player, always surprising with his assists and unexpected moves.

Quote: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen

Description: His punk looks, and his aggressive gestures and manners, make the media pay close attention to this player in every game; journalists know him and like controversy. Maybe Snag's character inside and outside the stadium is a bit tricky, but he is a man who clearly knows what he wants, what he is good at, and that he will overcome any obstacle in any possible way.

Background: Flint had a tough and problematic childhood that led to a controversial adolescence. Juvenile court was a familiar place for this boy. The press loves to emphasize his membership to a juvenile gang known as "The Apaches". Some of his delinquent fellow members of that time have said in interviews that Flint was the fastest one, the strongest one, the one who jumped highest, and the first one out to defend their brothers in a fight. They have also said that although he always was the first one to get into trouble and he could have been the first one to escape, he never left his peers behind.
He lived that kind of life until just before becoming legally an adult, when he started facing problems that could land him in jail instead of in the reformatory. By a judicial recommendation he "volunteered" to help in an Urban United School program recently started in his neighborhood for marginal youth.
Shortly after this..., one of his fellow gang members was killed in a shootout, and Flint decided to get away from that world and start helping kids younger than him. Basketball gave him the means to do so. In basketball he found not only the way to help others, but also, because of his enthusiasm and extraordinary abilities, it was basketball what turned him into what he is today. Urban United offered him the possibility of combining his work at the youth center with a high level training program in this school, so that he could explore all his potential.
He started being known as Snag because of a controversial row with Yuri Urianov in the 89-conference semifinal. He has a fame of being aggressive and devious, but he also has very redeeming qualities, and he finances several urban centers similar to those that gave him a chance.

Quote: Howl, howl, howl!!

Description: This player could certainly face alone any of the WBC teams by himself, and he wouldn't mind the challenge because, truth be told, he probably wouldn't be at a disadvantage. Spartan is strong, swift and resilient. He is an innate survivor and has the same endurance as any of the best players of the Kiev school.

Background: If there's a man in the world able to emulate the strength, toughness and dedication of the ancient Spartans, that man is Walter Gallager: Spartan. His harsh childhood and adolescence in the suburbs of New York lead him to become a born survivor. Member of several gangs, he was arrested on many occasions, escaping from various detention centers and prisons throughout his extensive criminal career.
The only thing that could appease Walter's antisocial behavior was a good game of basketball. On the court, his anger and excellent physical skills were focused on attacking play and the continuous harassment of his opponents, making them lose concentration and defeating them with no mercy.
The Spartan legend was forged after the shipwreck of the boat on which he had enlisted as a kitchen assistant after escaping from a prison in Canada. It seems he was the only survivor, and it is said he survived for six years on a small island without any vegetation or water.... To survive, he caught sharks with his bare hands and faced the elements without any shelter. Someone who has gone through such a situation ends up thinking about their past, and that is what led Spartan to want to become a new person. After being rescued by a pleasure boat, the revitalized Walter Gallager decided to achieve all that made him feel accomplished- Play basketball.
He visited Urban School, where once his abilities were spotted, he was accepted and offered a training plan. However, Spartan applied his own system - a plan that lived up to his nickname. A strict routine, a perfect diet and ten hours per day of speed, shooting, endurance and strength training that polished the rough diamond that lie within Spartan and turned him into the fearsome player he is today.

Quote: When you least expect it, you'll fall in my web and I'll defeat you

Description: A legend in the shadows and one of the best shooters of Europe, finally, after shining on the basketball courts and disappearing as if by magic, the Slovenian star returns to join the WBC. Her web is starting to spin...

Background: Frederica Kreslin is the descendant of an old lineage of Slovenian nobility. Her ancestors were always important public figures with major influence on society. The large Kreslin mansion, located in the vicinity of the desolate Karavanke mountains, is adorned with paintings of important scientists, doctors and soldiers.
Frederica was the fifth child of Marco and Svetlana Kreslin, and the only girl. She went to Ljubljana University at age 18, just like her brothers, although her progress was not what her family expected. Her four older brothers stood out in many disciplines: medicine, science, mathematics and even sports. Many had speculated about whether some of the Kreslins would join the Kiev School, but they preferred not to spend their lives playing basketball.
After several unpredictable years, during which time both her university studies and performance on the university team were just about average, Frederica's last year finally arrived - the year that changed everything for her.... The truth is, contrary to what everyone thought, she was far from just an average student or mediocre basketball player. She wasn't shy or a lonely girl either. Frederica Kreslin was actually an extremely methodical person, like an enthusiastic chess player. She liked to meticulously prepare all her moves, and her first years at university were just her initial training for what would come later.
During that last school year, she earned the highest grades in the history of Ljubljana University and her progress on the university team was heading in the same direction. After three years of offensive play, "Spider" (nickname earned during her last year of university) was ready to deal a lethal blow. With a perfect record -all victories of course - and incredible scoring percentage, Frederica "Spider" Kreslin won every trophy and tournament played that year.
The large WBC schools risked everything to recruit the young female Kreslin, but she decided to stay out of the public eye for a while and go back home to her family. After years of anonymity, and when no one really remembered Spider's feats anymore, Frederica Kreslin reappeared out of nowhere. And she did so by requesting to enter the Urban School. A new master move by Federica, a subtle and calculated blow to triumph in the WBC, signing where no one would ever have expected. Although few remembered her, they were all quite sure about one thing: if Spider had returned, it's because she was ready to crush anyone who got in her way.

Quote: With training there is no distance between desire and power.

Description: One of the most amazing stars of the WBC, who is capable of playing any position and possessor of a disproportionate physical ability compared to her size. “Gumball” is an advantage in every game-she takes out her rivals and dunks the ball for victory without any mercy whatsoever.

Background: Born and raised in one of the largest shanty towns of Río de Janeiro, Michelle Moraes began her sports career on the beaches of Copacabana playing volley ball. Michelle was a fantastic player and a very successful one. And then one day, she crossed paths with a scout from Kinky Beco Scola: Fabio “Tiburón” Do Santos. As he observed her physical strength, he could not resist offering her a place in the Academy so she could become first-team player. Michelle played volley ball to escape from her rough life. She was the second of eight children who she helped maintain, although in very unfavorable living conditions. Her door-to-door sales job took up most of her day and her income barely covered their living expenses. The offer from the School was very tempting, but in reality it was something that might not work out. This kept “Gumball” in limbo for weeks. Finally she decided to negotiate with Kinky Beco. She wanted a contract, but actually more of a scholarship that would give... her a minimum amount of money so she could continue helping out her family. Despite her doubts and confusion, and despite the fact that she had never played basketball before, Michelle progressed at lightning speed, quickly becoming one of the most promising talents of the School. Then, during the opening tournament for the 2009 Friend Games, the Urban School got a good glimpse of this player. Of course, they offered to sign her, and it was such a juicy offer that she simply could not refuse. This would end the precarious living situation of her parents and siblings. On the court, “Gumball” (nickname earned since she was a big gum fan and since she always took a colorful gumball machine with her wherever she went), is an agile and outstanding player, capable of bouncing back from the most difficult situations with superhuman reaction speed. Her game vision and her grace in passing made her one of the fundamental members of any team wanting to stand out in the WBC. Her current private life has little to offer. Michelle is a disciplined and consistent girl, who trains most of her time to become even better on the court. Michelle’s most noteworthy social activities include her support for NGOs and other social projects all over the world.

Quote: Nothing's impossible – well, just one thing: stopping me!

Description: This tanned giant may look innocuous, but on the court he displays an unprecedented fierceness. Even though he usually plays inside, George is capable of giving it all when it comes to tuning up his shot, and his success rate is way above average.

Background: He is the youngest son of a family with great military tradition, and he started playing basketball before he voluntarily joined the army. During those years, he took up playing for fun and even faced prominent players such as Zack Ambrige "Diablo" or Keri Manukao "Volcano”. It then became clear that he was a natural born basketball player. His qualities made him an incredibly powerful player under the hoop with a killer shot.
After graduating from military academy, he played an outstanding role in several of NATO's humanitarian missions and travelled all around the globe. This experience gave him the possibility to learn a lot about other basketball styles, and to grow as a player.
His outstanding performance at several charity matches caught the eye of many a talent scout of Asia United. But George, crazy in love with a sweet-looking Parisian girl, decided to let his career take him to old Europe.... He applied for leave from the Australian Army and was welcomed to the WBC with open arms as a member of the prestigious Vonkann Schule.
Since then, he has turned into one of the most versatile players and best shooters of the WBC.
Thanks to his great stature, he can play in both inside and outside positions, where his great agility and dexterous wrist come in handy. This becomes manifest in the magnificent success rates over the years, and the awards that he earned in several 3 point shot contests of the Gtorch AllStar. The combination of a precise shot and his height make "Alligator" a player who is very hard to block and almost impossible to defend.
Throughout his development, he received a number of awards for his career. In an article in WBC Magazine from 2006, "Alligator" was voted one of the top 10 power forwards of all times. He is a regular at the WBC All-Star Game, in which he participated as many as eight times. On top of that, he formed part of the All-WBC team five times.
But without a shadow of a doubt, the award that makes him most proud is the MVP award from 2007, being the first player from Oceania to receive this honor. And he won it big time, leading in points, rebounds and success rate of free throws.

Quote: Defeat is for fools

Description: He is basketball strategist, a symbol of the Vonkann school and a great WBC veteran. He is capable of a gracefulness in his moves that nears excellence, and he is the perfect example for minimalism in moves, qualities appreciated by any coach.

Background: From a noble and wealthy family, his parents offered him all the learning opportunities within their reach: fencing, riding, stock exchange business, diplomacy, etc., but what Jean-Claude chose was a team sport: basketball. With his innate leadership qualities and the first class training he received from the very first moment at the Vonkann School, he became a great captain.
Ever since the beginning of his long career, he has led teams to victory in every continent. His game insight is so privileged that he is known as the Sun-Tzu of basketball. When he has to prove his playing quality, his graceful movements, great shooting skills and speed, turn him into a fearsome enemy, but he prefers to lead his "troops" from a distance, making sure that not even the tiniest of gaps in his strategy are left to chance.
He has received many offers to coach teams, but "El Duque" still considers himself a young man, and for the time being still has lots more to offer on the court.

Quote: Now is my chance. Get ready

Description: His basketball philosophy is Patience. He can go unnoticed in a match, until just the right moment comes for him to make a move: when his rivals are at their weakest. His team knows they can count on Marcel at just the right time.

Background: In basketball, just like in real life, we have to learn to make the most of opportunities when they arise. Advice like this, coming from a man like Marcel Norton, should be taken seriously.
This player has stood out for his accuracy since his days in university competitions. For three consecutive seasons he was the player with the highest percentage of successful shots in the league. He has explained that this effectiveness is due entirely to his great patience.
Ever since he started playing this sport, Marcel had the patience and perseverance of a predator, waiting for just the right moment to act. His style may seem somewhat passive, but the results throughout his career show its effectiveness. This profitable player doesn't just apply this philosophy to sports, but he also practices relaxation and meditation techniques in his daily life. He has written several books, with titles such as Fishing for Fortune and Focus and Concentration, which show a philosophy of contemplation and fast action. Marcel got most of his inspiration... for these books from aspects of Zen philosophy and also from his own ideas.

Quote: Clearly, you underestimate my capability to react

Description: The brutal aspect of this great player hides a brilliant mind, able to plan the most complex moves in a moment. His opponents are often distracted by the way he looks, thinking he is clumsy, and he plays that misconception to his advantage. He plays relying both on his size and on his mind.

Background: Marcus earned the nickname "Frankenstein" because of his strange aspect: tall as a wall, with a square jaw, and with long and strong arms like a gorilla. The strange condition of his skin that gives it a greenish color and numerous scars suffered in different accidents during his life, approached her appearance at the famous monster created by Mary Shelley, but unlike him, the basketball player has his brain a more than perfect operation. His rough appearance may not be very successful to attract young women, but thanks to his brain and his excellent grades, and also thanks to his incredible sporting career, many colleges competed to enroll him.
Once he started college, he spent the following years combining nineteenth-century literature studies with the practice of high-level college basketball. He has said in one public statement...: I think wasting physical qualities such as mine, so suitable for a sport like basketball or rugby, would be a shame. His analytical thinking is also apparent in his playing. Those who think that this player could be easily deceived by feinting are in for a nasty surprise.
Due to the accident suffered while conducting experiments during a thunderstorm, Frankenstein acquired a strange power known as ELECTRIFYING JUMP, thereafter, after capture a rebound, launches a wave of electricity that slows speed by 30 points on all opponents during 3 seconds.

Quote: These hands create beauty in the world and destroy it on the court.

Description: Famous sculptor capable of creating beauty from the coldest and hardest rock - with his bare hands. On the court, these same hands stop anyone's shot at the basket, by showing them how cold and hard the court really is.

Background: He was raised in Bodrum, where his father worked as an archaeologist. When the time came to go to university, of course his father registered him in the most prestigious university of Ankara so he could follow in his footsteps. However, Turgut didn't share his father's compassion for archeology and never adapted to life in Ankara. After a few months and even though his father was totally against his decision, he dropped out of Ankara and returned home. Soon, he would enter a small arts and crafts school. During those years, Bodrum was a thriving city, overrun by artists, musicians and poets from all over Turkey. Many athletes came to Bodrum as well, to enjoy their summer vacation in this amazing city. Turgut became passionate for the arts and basketball alike, exploring the importance of physical limits in art. His incredible ability to block his rivals' throws were just some of the highlights of his many great performances. And of course, this caught the attention of several WBC school scouts. Finally, Turgut accepted an offer... from the Vonkann Schule and started his journey towards old Europe.
The day "The Hammer" was born
Turgut Bayar was a little restless. It was his first match as a WBC player. The knot in his stomach was getting bigger by the minute. His mind was filled with images of his hometown. His ears rang with his father's advice when they spent time together on archaeological digs. His body recalled his first games at school and the uncountable hours of training. Today is the day he'd been waiting for. Today was his day... Everyone could sense the expectation in the bleachers - the new recruit appeared very promising, although the constant cracks in the press about the league's new "sculptor" led some people to believe otherwise. Crass error. The first two quarters were quite difficult for Turgut. He couldn't find his place among the WBC big players and shining stars - but this didn't last long. Just as the third quarter began, in an amazing play by Quatermaster who distanced himself into an advantageous position, the young Turgut was the only player who could stop him, but there's no way could a rookie prevent a shot like that one: second error. Turgut jumped like he did at school, like he did on his university team and just like he did in practice. He jumped with such accuracy that his block on Quatermaster was like lightening striking through the right through stadium: a legend was being born...The commentator was elated with Turgut's every block... he was simply amazing. The press was jumping out of their seats every time a Bayer blocked his rivals again and again. They say that the NCB journalist, William Downs, who was totally taken away by the excitement, shouted: "Turgut's pulled out the hammer again, that sculptor is simply out of sight." Then from that moment on, every time Turgut blocked a shot, the crowd would start to shout: "Hammer!" And before he knew it, Turgut became known as Hammer ... forever.

Quote: You just can't beat the person who never gives up.

Description: An atypical forward who stands out thanks to his amazing speed and physical power, capable of catching a rebound, passing the ball to the point guard and reaching the other basket before anyone else.

Background: Tony Belmonte's life would have been one totally devoted to baseball. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, since a child he has been totally into baseball. At age 14, he started playing for "Los Leones De Ponce". In the baseball world, he caught everyone's attention right from the beginning, and his debut in this sport just happened to coincide with the longest winning streak ever seen in Puerto Rico.
Tony was a match player thanks to his major strength and agility, in addition to his extreme speed and disproportionate passion for the game. However, this unstoppable passion also made him lose control at times - something that his rivals soon learned to take advantage of.
Over the years and despite being a devoted Caribbean baseball player, "HomeRun" Belmonte (nickname earned for breaking the Puerto Rican batting record in just one season), still had some attitude problems. Unfortunately, he never made it to the North American major leagues, which frustrated him to the point of destroying his career.
His need to get away from the baseball world... brought him to Europe. Tony visited the most famous European sport centers with his eagerness to learn new training methods. He trained with the great European soccer and rugby teams. And, of course, he discovered the headquarters of the prestigious WBC basketball schools.
After training with the Vonkann School stars, the unthinkable occurred: the untamed Tony "HomeRun" Belmonte found the perfect balance he needed to control his strong character. By playing alongside calm, but wise players like Haim Spieguel "Professor" or Ratko Mileslav "Tesla", Tony Belmonte found the way to be sensible and calculating at the right time. And without even realizing it, he even became more active in team training sessions.
The Vonkann School coaches saw his potential and offered a spot on the team. The same qualities that made Tony a star Caribbean baseball player, together with the particular training techniques learned at Vonkann, could be used to turn him into a very unique Center.
So Belmonte decided to postpone his dream of playing in the major leagues (baseball that is) and was determined to enjoy a few seasons competing in the WBC, to everybody's surprise of course. It might be a test he himself wants to pass before going back to his favorite sport, but in the meantime, all the WBC fans will enjoy the intensity and will to win of this great center.

Quote: Those who are unable to recognize their place in the world deserve to be ashamed

Description: An incredibly tall player with bulging eyes, he has been described by some as toad face, but Radomir is not easily intimidated; his quick-witted replies are as fast as his jumps for a rebound.

Background: Since he was a child Radomir was a quiet and pensive kid, prone to daydreaming and long periods of silence. Although he wasn't short of friends and playmates, he always had a solitary attitude, he liked to walk through the green fields of his home country, quietly contemplating his surroundings. As a teenager he liked to immerse himself in literature and was keen on poetry. He played basketball, but more as a means of exercise than an unbounded passion. As he once said in a statement, The body is the motor of the mind, and the mind is the motor of the body. This attitude changed when at university and almost by chance, he met a basketball fanatic: Ratko Mileslav aka "Tesla". They soon became friends and though Radomir's mind easily drifted to poetry and deep thoughts, Ratko's enthusiasm for basketball and his passion to share it with others aroused the young center's curiosity. His friend had started a second team outside the university to train while he was resting from the university team training sessions. Radomir had always been a tall kid... and they needed a center and since there was nobody else available to cover that position, he joined. Soon "Hubble" was playing in "Tesla's" university team, and they both made a name for themselves very quickly. The young player, though moody and prone to lengthy philosophical meanderings, proved to have a sharp mind well suited to the game of basketball. His reactions were fast and he could resolve complex tactical situations with ingenuity and at lightning speed. Together with "Tesla" they formed an extraordinary pair and the whole team profited from their skills. The Vonkann school didn't waste time in making Radomir an unbeatable offer, and even today he remains one of the most emblematic centers in Vonkann Schule's history. His speed and defensive vision have won his trainers trust, and his telescopic shots have earned him the nickname "Hubble".

Quote: Let's see whose batteries run out first

Description: With a personality like never-ending fuel, his teammates know he'll still be going strong when the rest are struggling, to get them motivated and push them forward. Although he doesn't look physically exceptional, his determination makes him unstoppable.

Background: Before committing to basketball full-time, Yacov Nudelman was a hyperactive kid who drove both his parents and teachers to desperation. Everyone could see that he was highly intelligent and sharp, but he found it hard to focus on one thing unless he had previously been worn out by some other activity. It was clear that sport was the solution. Support from his wealthy family helped him to gain a place at the recently opened Vonkann school headquarters. The school's philosophy was to combine academic studies with a high-level sporting career, which made for both a demanding and costly program, but Yacov knew how to make the most of it and impressed his teachers with his tireless spirit. He was the first to turn up for class and the last to leave the training sessions. He may not have had the technical skills of a star but what he lacked in skill he made up for with his unbeatable attitude and determination to overcome his limitations. He began to focus more of his efforts on basketball and although his results and track record weren't the best of his class..., he was the first to sign a professional contract. It wasn't the most famous team, and he his salary wasn't as high as some other members of the Vonkann, but "Kerosene" burned fuel until his team was promoted and went on to win the trophy the following year thanks to its small forward and undisputed leader who was the star of the season. As his main trainer said, If you're looking for someone you can rely on till the end, Yacov's your man.

Quote: Focus your mind and you can achieve anything

Description: This is a man who has overcome all obstacles to achieve his dream. This player may have a somewhat weird appearance, but in basketball he has won a well-deserved right to be part of the largest league in the world.

Background: Hardik's father was a successful man: an important player in international cricket that helped his family get out of economical distress. The most important thing for his father was that Hardik trained hard to become a cricket player as successful as he was.
Hardik trained extremely hard in front of his father, but what he really loved were the spectacular and exciting American-style sports, especially basketball. When he was discovered practicing or playing in the street any game or sport that was not cricket, he had to escape running so that his father would not reprimand him. Although he got to be an excellent player, and had a great technique in cricket in India, he wanted to play basketball.
After a heated discussion with his family, he decided to start working and save for a trip, and in the meantime get ready for the entrance trails at the famous schools in the WBC. He spent years combining his cricket training, hard work, and intense basketball preparation. This took longer than he had anticipated, but it was worth the wait....
When he arrived in Europe and took entrance trails to enter the basketball school, he impressed the scouts with his expertise, patience, concentration and clear vision of the game. Vonkann Schule proposed him to enter the school and train with them, but her family refused to let him accept.
Falling out with his family was very hard for Hardik, but after his success in college basketball his father had to admit that "Ohm" was born to play professional league. Hardik Bhoola is a player who knows how to fight hard for what he wants. He is able to remain calm in most situations and he is a key element for any team.

Quote: A game is an equation to be solved

Description: Although it might seem that Haim Spieguel it is too thin to play professionally, his excellent physical shape is amazing. The Professor lives up to the motto healthy mind in a healthy body, and multiplies it by two.

Background: Who said nerds could not be professional athletes? It seems that Haim Spieguel's career is destined to prove that theory wrong. He graduated cum laude from the Technion and the Weizmann Institute of Science. This frail-looking man is one of the most amazing players in the WBC.
He undergoes a training mathematically calculated for maximum performance and minimal physical wear. He also follows a special diet tailored to his metabolic needs and enhanced with specifically designed elements to compensate for his physical deficiencies, exploiting the capabilities that remain untapped in others.
He was the first scorer in college basketball, and being a teacher at the same time! He is able not only to estimate the likely reactions of the opposing team before a given play, but also to calculate the angle, speed and power required for a successful three pointer shoot. This is a player who is an experiment, a teacher and basketball star, all in one!

Quote: Run, you lazybones!

Description: Rough and tough, with a thundering voice and temper similar to that of the mythical Gorgon. This player knows how to put every member of the team in their place and doesn't allow laziness, individualism or stupidity to enter amongst his peers. He is an efficient and aggressive player.

Background: In the WBC, many rumors and legends are circulating about this intimidating character; it is said he is a descendant of Ferdinand von Zeppelin himself. It is also rumored that after an injury he returned to the professional game only because he spent some years being tormented as a varsity coach. He was so sick of dealing with lazy and incompetent players, that he realized unless he didn't do it himself, he would never see real basketball. Even among his peers he is known to be relentless and unyielding. He often makes suggestions to his coaches on how to improve discipline, establishing a strict training system similar to the purest Vonkann style, but with his personal flavor. He is a player who never shows mercy on the court. He never fails or accepts a no as an answer or a defeat as a result. He doesn't know the meaning of the words "sense of humor" and many players in the WBC know they would rather not to get in his way (both when playing with him or against him).

Quote: Go team! Together we have no rival

Description: The natural ability of this player for organization and leadership makes him the ideal captain for any team. He generates relentless energy and never allows his teammates to give up. He really is the team's soul.

Background: When Ratko was born, his family was suffering financial problems. The whole country was experiencing serious difficulties and they decided to move to a remote place in the depth of a Croatian forest, where his grandparents made ends meet harvesting raspberries.
He discovered his sports vocation through a sports channel and an old satellite dish that his grandfather had borrowed from the army. They only aired old black and white WBC games, but for Ratko there was a before and an after TV in his life. Thanks to his endless energy and ability to lead young people, Ratko organized all the boys around him to start a basketball championship. He didn't mind the miles he had to walk or the many people he had to convince; the result was that, in a few years, the championship was a success in the community, and the whole region was somewhat involved. Ratko was a basketball fan and had enormous drive.
He needed to help his family with the fields' work, so he decided to create a training routine that could be combined with his working time.... He set baskets along the fields to practice shots, obstacles to overcome all through the paths, started avoiding the use of ladders to force him to jump high, and a number of other discomforts that not only kept him in great shape, but also made him work faster and more motivated. Soon all the boys in the region had copied his training routine, and this not only improved the quality of the competition, but also increased the raspberry production dramatically.
Ratko was the soul of his team, but instead of outshining his peers, he managed to organize things so that everybody could shine. When scouts from the Vonkann Schule observed the young strategist, they spared no expense to take him to Germany and provide the professional training that turned him into a top player.

Born into a military family, Armand was sent early to the most prestigious military academy in France. Over the years he learned the tactics and strategies of the most efficient armies in history. During his time as a cadet, he demonstrated his good skills at handling the ball, turning his physical education classes into a real show.
During joint maneuvers in Germany and in a break, an exhibition game was organized by the Vonnkann Schule, attended by all young soldiers. During the exhibition, a friendly encounter was organized, and cadet Letou enrolled with no hesitation. The members of the German school were impressed by his originality when planning the strategies and passing the ball bust most of all, by his amazing speed. They didn't think twice before offering this diamond in the rough to join their school in order to train to polish his skills.... To their astonishment, however, it didn't stop there. The young new player turned out to be an excellent playmaker who applied to the game the tactics learned from Hannibal or even Napoleon- game plays never seen before and approaches that could weaken the strongest defense.
Today, Armand Letou, nicknamed "The Boss", is considered one of the best point guards with a long career ahead of him that, if improved, could make him become a living legend of the WBC.

Quote: Listen, let's do it this way...

Description: He is one of the tallest centers in the WBC, but his height is at the same level of his intelligence and brain sharpness, and that causes really tough situations for his opponents. He is a born "team builder" who gets his team to work as a well-oiled machine by following his strategy and efficiency.

Background: He was born in Algeria, but because his father was a prominent businessman with contacts in Europe, Thierry spent most of his youth studying abroad. He was intelligent, fond of models and mathematic competitions. Because of his great creative and ability, he could succeed in almost anything he tried, but nothing was ever enough for his ambitious and demanding parents.
He had a humble demeanor, and when he turned into an adult, instead of continuing his studies, he traveled around in Europe for three years. This is a relatively unknown part of his past, one that even the most inquisitive media have not managed to unravel.
When he returned home his aspect was a "little weird" which shocked his parents. He had also obtained two distance university degrees, and had become a big fan of basketball. His basketball passion was backed by a proposal to join the professional training system... of the Vonkann Schule in Germany.
In those three years he had gone from being a lanky teenager to become a man of great height and self-confidence, so his parents could not stop him from doing what he wanted. Once he became a member of the Vonkann school, Thierry proved he is a real "game strategist", capable of turning around any situation on the court. He is now considered as one of the most astute and dedicated captains of Vonkann Schule.
